Nearly Perfect

Pros: Smooth, quiet, sturdy, well-built, powerful, massive interior space

Cons: Removable seat is brutally heavy

The Bottom Line: 99% great SUV. Only advice would be to make sure you get the new feature of the retractable 3rd-row seat. You'll be very happy you do.

Everything about our new 2002 Expedition is better than our 1997 Explorer Sport. More power, better handling, quieter ride, better gas mileage, smaller turning radius. The only piece of advice we offer to anyone planning on buying a new Expedition is to go ahead and spend for the electronically retractable 3rd-row seat. Our "removable" one is harder to take in and out than our 100-lb dog. I am over 220 lbs and it is just about all I can handle. In almost all instances, its a 2-person job. And you will find yourself wanting to take it out often. It folds down, but still takes up quite a bit of room. The new option folds down to a lat surface. Its a great addition to an almost perfect SUV. I will always sit and stew every time I see the new 2003 Ford commercial that advertises the "disappearing" power, retractable seat. Ouch. It stings just thinking about it.
