I love my 2002 Ford Escape XLT-but it has gremlins

by   rebeccainlv ,  Mar 5, 2004
Pros: Horsepower, ride, handling, price, looks, upgrades, towing capacity.
Cons: Leather seats are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Electrical gremlins.
The Bottom Line: This SUV is truly best in it's class. I could have picked any SUV, including luxury, and I loved the Escape the most.
Review: I purchased my 2002 Ford Escape XLT in Oct 2001. It is yellow with leather seats, tow package, sun/moon roof and the upgrade Mach stereo with the 6 disk in dash CD. I absolutely love this vehicle. Reasons for buying: I test drove a PT Cruiser, ...

Awesome, but...watch for ice.

by   rubble27 ,  Jan 15, 2006
Pros: Overall size. Accessories. Power. Structural Safety. Yes, the 4x4
Cons: Handling on slick surfaces. Limited storage capacity. With 2 child car seats, rear seating limited.
The Bottom Line: Definitely recommended. Resale value has gone up. SUV-like Handling is an issue, and it's loose in snow. Use snow tires!
Review: We love our Escape. We traded in our 96 Taurus and actually gained room in our garage. It has comfortable room for four, space for the dog and amenities. However, I recently crashed my 2002 4 wheel drive Escape. While driving a straight section ...

A Sporty and Not-Too-Big SUV for a Growing Family

by   johnny_huh ,  Jun 3, 2005
Pros: Good looking, comfort, finish, nice stereo, dark window tinting and fun engine.
Cons: Poorly designed hood release, road noise at speed, bad stock tires.
The Bottom Line: This is a buy, the combination of looks, price, utility and compactness make this a nice family car. I only wish we'd been able to wait and get the hybrid.
Review: We did quite alot of research into the smaller SUV's before deciding to get the Escape. It combined all of the features we needed and had a very nice price as well. The Escape's a good little ride. We got the XLT 2 wheel drive model with lots of ...

Fantastic Small SUV

by   mtgrzz ,  May 28, 2008
Pros: drives like a car great small suv
Cons: cargo room
The Bottom Line: Great small SUV. If you want an SUV that drives like a car, this is it!
Review: I really wanted an SUV but wanted something that drove like a car. We already had a full size SUV so the search was on. I had considered the Mazada and Kia equivalent to the Escape but they do not compare at all. I found a 2002 Ford Escape XLT. It was ...

This vehicle is incredible

by   prattguy ,  Aug 29, 2001
Pros: Looks, price, driving, handling
Cons: Gas mileage if you're not used to an SUV
The Bottom Line: Room, power, ride, and most especially PRICE. Nothing more needs to be said.
Review: Let me start off by saying that this is the first time I've been an SUV owner. So far, I've owned three vehicles, all Pontiacs. Finally after 6 years of college and three years in the workforce, I decided that it was time for me to pay myself back....

My first SUV

by   lkarelee ,  Nov 13, 2001
Pros: Zippy, Comfortable, Lots of Room, Great Looking, Good Mileage
Cons: Little Noisy
The Bottom Line: Very happy with my purchase - absolutely no major problems.
Review: I traded in my Lexus - so I'm new to SUV's and American made vehicles. But I was looking for something that would give me more flexibility and was fun to drive the 2002 Escape fit the bill.

I first test drove the sister-SUV the Mazda...

Update: 26,000 miles

by   camera2 ,  Oct 29, 2002
Pros: Size, power, front wheel drive
Cons: Low end factory sound system
The Bottom Line: Excellent car
Review: So far this SUV has been a pure joy to own. There have been no maintenance issues. The engine upon breaking in around 12,000 miles is smooth and getting consistant 24-28 miles to the gallon. 2WD with 16" tires.

I have put this car through...

My Escape Makes Me Happy.

by   insaneactor ,  Feb 16, 2003
Pros: Great appearance, good gas mileage
Cons: needs a tad more trunkspace w/o dropping the back seats.
The Bottom Line: What a great little SUV.
Review: I'm not going to write a high-tech review, because I don't know enough about cars to do so.

I purchased my 2002 Ford Escape at Fred Beans Ford in PA. For those of you who don't know this dealership, they are tops in customer satisfaction, and...

I love my first SUV!

by   ianchicago773 ,  Nov 20, 2001
Pros: Fantastic V6, Fun to Drive, Versatile for the City
Cons: Brake dust, Loud engine and interior, Engine 'knocking', No full-sized spare.
The Bottom Line: A lot of SUV and features with some annoying cons, but with pros that outweigh these short-comings.
Review: Well first off, my previous automobile was a used 1990 Toyota Camry, a gift at age 16. What a difference between the two. Many seasoned SUV owners probably don't realize just how much more interior space an SUV has versus the typical mid-sized sedan....

Ford Escape 2002, I like it... I like it allot! :)

by   islandmama ,  Dec 24, 2001
Pros: Excellent ride, comfy seats, AWESOME shell for added safety in a crash.
Cons: Price is a bit high. The interior controls seem a bit basic.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a great SUV, this may be the one. Just do your research, and decide for yourself. :)
Review: We are stationed overseas in Okinawa Japan through the AirForce. We are used to driving old foreign junkers that we picked up for about $800 or less, just to last us through our tour and also allowed us to save some money. We decided that since we are...
