Author's Review

I purchased a 1997 E-250 extended work van from a friend of mine who owned a drain cleaning company. Paid $2000 for it with approx 150k on the clock. I now have 180k.

The Good:
Has never once failed to start. Holds all my tools plus materials (I am a contractor). On an average day I go across the scales at 7000# on the dot. I have hauled a trailed many times and had a combined weight as high as 16,000#. Comfortable to drive. All controls are within easy reach. I clear it all out a couple times a summer and my wife and I take the dogs camping.

The Bad:
Eats up front tires very fast. The boys at the tire store said I need a new front end. Doubtful i will ever get that done. Had to replace 3 ignition coils at a cost of $600. Heater doesn't keep up in the winter. My feet are burning up but my body is cold. I'm sure this is better in the passenger versions with the rear heater vents. Stress crack in the front windshield. A pig on roller skates in the snow.

The Verdict:
Hard to ask more out of a vehicle than this one. It performs wonderfully. Plenty of power. Reasonable MPG's (12 city/ 15 hwy observed). I don't know why more contractors don't use vans. All my tools are dry and secure every night and it actually has 3 more feet in the bed then a full size pickup.
