The critics were right.

by   eddoss ,  Jan 8, 2000
Pros: Excellent dependability and economical to operate. Fun to drive, with the manual transmission. Nice looking with the XLT package and the sport wheels.
Cons: Not enough room in the cab. The factory stereo is just OK.
Review: I purchased my Ranger new in March of 1996. I purchased it because I needed a truck to use while remodeling a home, but I wanted a vehicle that would be small enough to commute to work.

I picked the Ranger over the other small...

Great economical truck!

by   royharper ,  May 11, 2003
Pros: Low maintenance, great handling, comfortable, stylish.
Cons: Center console latch breaks easily.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this vehicle for reliability and legroom.
Review: I bought my 1996 Ranger XLT, extended cab, 2WD, auto transmission, in November, 2002. I drive it to and from work every day. The truck is extremely reliable and comfortable and is a pleasure to drive and own. It has great legroom (one of my key...

Love My Ranger

by   tracker464 ,  Nov 9, 2003
Pros: good looks; combination of price and dependability
Cons: I haven't experienced any.
The Bottom Line: Consider how many of these vehicles are on the road and how long they have been there, with no hint of an end in sight.
Review: My Ranger is a 1996 XLT, 3.0 V6, A/T. I wanted either a Ranger or Mazda because I think they are the best looking small trucks on the road outside of a Tacoma, but without the Tacoma price tag. I bought it used with 64,500 miles. I had some reservation ...

Ranger is the gold standard

by   Rlwpaw5707 ,  Jan 21, 2000
Pros: Great looks, dependable, comfortable, great ergonomics and attention to detail
Cons: Seats could be better
Review: This is my fifth Ranger. Although it is a 1996, it still looks as new as a 2000 model. Absolutely dependable, quite comfortable and roomy even for someone as large as myself at 240 lbs and 6'6". My previous Ranger, a 1995 was probably the best...

Ranger #2

by   dwk57 ,  Aug 8, 2000
Pros: Comfortable, Dual air bags
Cons: None
Review: Replaced my '87 Ranger with this '96, and have no regrets. This one is loaded, except for 4-wheel drive, which I don't need. At 55,000 miles the only item requiring a trip to the dealer was the 6-disc CD player that quit - under warranty, thank...

My First Truck

by   eeman ,  Aug 12, 2002
Pros: Very reliable, cheap to own.
Cons: 4 cyl is adaquate but wish I had some reserve power for passing and hills.
The Bottom Line: Excellent transportation for low cost. Perfect for the homeowner that does occasional project but also wants reliable and comfort for commutes.
Review: I was looking for my first truck in 1997 and after looking at all the makes, I settled on the Ford Ranger. I chose the Ranger because of the Consumer Reports Rec and the price.

Went to a dealer, in Feb 1997, that had leftover 1996 models....

by   TrishaJo ,  Mar 1, 2000
Pros: Easy to handle, good on gas and an enjoyable ride
Cons: None
Review: In 1996 my husband and I were once again looking for "his dream truck." We were not too lucky it seemed when it came to buying vehicles. He saw this truck and all was said, he had to have it.

I was concerned about him buying a...

couldn't ask for better

by   cornfed621 ,  Jan 9, 2001
Pros: lots of power, lots of room, reliable
Cons: loss of resale value, gas milage
Review: I was in the market for a small truck, I looked around and I found that the ranger offered the most for your money, although I later found that the resale on these trucks drop very quikly.
For less then I could have bought a toyota standard cab...

Reliable, well made workhorse

by   rgdave ,  Nov 23, 2000
Pros: Reliable, reasonably priced
Cons: Doesn't have the Toyota panache
Review: 5 years old, and this trusty little 4x4 has only had one problem --- the check engine light came on (which turned out to be a software problem.) Its as tight as the day it was made, with one of those irritating little problems that generally plague...

My Truck is the BEST

by   martisullivan1 ,  Feb 8, 2000
Pros: Low Maintence, Dependable
Cons: NONE
Review: I bought my truck used in 1996. It was a program vehicle. I have used it everyday since then and have found it to be the very best vehicle I have ever owned. This is top priority for a woman in her 50's. We have to have a dependabel vehicle. My 1996...
