We first started to look into another car after selling our Mitsubishi, and didn't know which car that we should get that would be both efficient, and able to handle the heavy driving with low maintenance. We travel so much and needed a vehicle that would be dependable, and withstand the miles that we would put it through. Luckily when we went to purchase our 1994 Dark Green 2 door, V8, Ford Thunderbird, we knew that we made the right choice.
The most accurate way to let you know about the vehicle is to tell you the whole story pretty much. We had to purchase another vehicle which was already explained, but we live in WV. So we turned to an online auction site to do this through. We purchased our vehicle for 536.00. There were supposedly no problems with it that was catastrophic, but just in case, my husband is a mechanic, so I don’t get taken for bad deals too often with cars. We had to drive 5 hrs to DE to get this vehicle. We get there and the guy hurries up and takes the plates from the vehicle, and tells us we should go in the car that we have to get the one way permit. So we didn’t think anything of it, and got in the car to go and get it. We get back, the guy runs in the house deal done he thinks. We start the vehicle and we hear this loud clinging noise, and I didn’t know what it was. My husband looks at me and smiles. The guy comes back out and hands us some touch up paint that he had for the vehicle and once again tries to run off. However, this time I tell him to stick around because I’m going to take it for a drive. I took it for a test drive and I knew that the brakes needed bled. But my husband knew something else even the noise was so loud he heard it the entire time. The guy thought he was pulling the wool over our eyes. The entire time he was looking at my husband, knowing that he didn’t tell us the entire truth. Well I get out of the car and I look at the guys and I pat my husband on the back, and I tell him that brakes need bled, but you can handle you’re the mechanic. The guys jaw dropped, and my husband said ok let’s go home. We get it home and my husband knew the entire time that it was a pulley that was bad in it, about a twenty seven dollar project, considering we don’t have to pay for labor. We let the guy know what was wrong with the car, and he completely changed his story, but for the benefit we got a 1,200 car for half the price because he lied.
On the drive home the car had so much power. The V8 really pulls itself well. It handles very well, and is able to cut turns as sharp as someone feels comfortable taking them. The sunroof is comfortable commodity, and is automatic for this car. The heater and air conditioning is wonderful, and you can set it to the exact degree that you would like in the vehicle. Power seats, power locks, tilted steering, and even though it is a coupe, it still has a very spacious back seat, along with a very deep trunk.
Gas mileage is really good also. City miles is about 19-20 mpg, but highway miles are around 27-34. Really great gas mileage for all the power this car has. And in all honesty if you do need parts for it, they are not that expensive at all. The normal repairs for this vehicle cost anywhere from twenty to eighty dollars. Things like pulleys, ball joints, brakes, plugs, wires, filters, and everything is included between that range, or lower. Parts are easy to come by for these vehicles, and most auto parts stores have these parts when you need them, so there is no waiting around. Although they are very dependable cars, so chances are that you won’t need those parts anyway.
The only flaw that we have ran into with this vehicle is it’s use in the snow. This is a rear wheel drive vehicle, and not very heavy in the back end. So understandably it is not going to do the best in the snow, make sure to use chains for the tires or studded tires, and to take it slow and easy. The last thing that you want is to be going fast and hit a patch of black ice. But in regular weather, this is an awesome vehicle.
The 1994 Ford Thunderbird is a very sturdy, reliable, and gas efficient vehicle perfect for everyday use. I would recommend this car to anyone who needs great gas mileage, and a car to get you where you need to go.
