This Green Machine Keeps on Going

First I have to admit this is my sister's car that my parents and her purchased back in 1993. I have drove it many times when I needed a car to take me back and forth to Auburn University when my car decided to break down while I was home visiting. There was even a time when I had the Ford Mustang at school for 2 weeks. My neighbors and friends were starting to think that I had gotten a new car because it stayed at the apartment longer than the usual week.

Why did my sister and parents decided to buy the Ford Mustang? My sister was looking for a car that looked sporty but weighed a good bit. My dad being an insurance agent refused to let us have a light weight car. His other thing about cars was that he would not let us have a vehicle in red. At the time I didn't understand his strange behavior but later I found out. Police Officer are more likely to pull over a red vehicle (especially if it is a sports car) because the color catches their eye. Of course the driver is speeding or breaking one of the traffic laws. This actual information came from a police officer himself.

So my sister ended up getting a pretty green Ford Mustang. It was more of an emerald green. One of the other reasons my parents decided on Ford was because in the past they have had several Fords or Mercury that have been great vehicles.

What is it like to drive this car? First I am not into speed so sorry guys! Hate to disappoint all of you. While I was at college driving the Mustang was a thrill. Here I was driving a sports car and not my oversized Volvo that must people got to see me in. The car sat down closer to the road than my car so that took a little bit getting used to. At first it felt strange driving the car because I was not used to sitting down that low. It was a very smooth driving car compared to my volvo but on average it drove okay on the interstate.

How has this car lasted over the years? It is 2001 and my sister is still driving her original green mustang. I am amazed how long this car has lasted considering she has not really taken that great of care of it. Before she got married she was famous for not changing the oil. Now since she is married her dear husband makes sure that gets done. Of course she has had some problems with the car but nothing major. Considering how old this car is there are going to be things to wear out on it. Lately she has not had any problems and plans to drive it until it will not go any further.

Don't recommend this car to:
If you are a very tall person I don't think I would recommend this Ford Mustang because you might feel crowded inside it. My sister and I never had to worry about being sardines in the car because I am only 5'2 and she is 5'4. On the other hand her husband is 6' and does feel like a sardine when he has to drive the car. I think he prefers driving his Ford Explorer.

If you have children, especially children in car seats, I would recommend this car to you. This has been quite an experience lately. See I have two children that are still in carseats and they will be for a while. When my sister and I want to go somewhere with the children it is a pain trying to get them in the backseat in their carseats. I don't know what we are going to do when baby #3 gets here in June because there is not enough room for three carseats and two adults.

Who should buy this vehicle:
This would make a great first time car for a teenager. It is sporty looking but safe. My sister had a wreck in the one she is still driving today. With a little body work it looks just like new. Of course I wouldn't want to be in a head on collision in this vehicle but then I wouldn't want to be in any car for that matter.
