Product Review

Very nice vehicle

by   mouat ,   Mar 29, 2004

Pros:  Comfortable, great legroom for driver, nice driving position, decent power

Cons:  awful mileage

The Bottom Line:  Not an econo-car!!! Goes through 2 tanks of gas in no time at flat! Buy as a secondary vehicle if you're young and have a little extra money!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars
Ease of Conversion: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

I have an 89 E-250 HD variant of the Club Wagon and is it huge. Not the extended Super Club model, but it still easily dwarfs a Suburban (much to the surprise of my family physician who's Suburban my van happened to be parked beside). Even though I'm 24 and 6 feet tall, I still have to kind of jump into the drivers seat. One big kudos I really have to give to Ford is that from 1975 they pushed the engine and hood forward so there is minimal intrusion of the engine in the cockpit area which makes life much better for the driver and his or her legs. Finally Chevy adopted this design in their current van while Dodge's full-size van, even though recently they redesigned their vans by jutting their noses and engines forward, one would still have to jump up and over that dirty front tire. My truck has the older 5.8 MPI engine with 210 HP. Not a road-burner and certainly not as peppy as a newer model Chevy 3/4 ton van with a 5.0, but it moves my van around with reasonable authority. Mileage is quite poor, however, while its ratings hover around 10 MPG. Nice and luxurious, it is, as mine's an XLT with every option except power seats. Since I'm a university student, having a container like this is very handy when it comes time to move. I'm very proud to own one and it still looks sharp and gets pleasant and often enthusiastic comments by friends and family even though its design dates back to the mid 70's.
