Author's Review

I purchased my Ford Ranger extended cab in 1988. I STILL own it! It has over 190,000 miles on it and is going strong. Its a 4 wheel drive and has been used extensively as both a farm truck and a family vehicle. Finally, after all these miles the transmission blew. However, it was easily repaired for around $400. Also, the right front suspension rusted out and instead of replacing the whole frame or junking the truck, we just drilled out a few rivets and replaced that part of the frame. The rest of the frame is fine. Its amazing the lack of maintenance on this vehicle and the ease by which it can be worked on. Even the little things like, radio knobs, door handles, jump seats, heat/air controls still work well. I did have to replace two water pumps and they were very hard to get at. However, all in all, I am very satisfied with my purchase and if I ever do decide to buy again, it will be another Ford Ranger 4x4 extended cab. That one should last me for the last half of my life or maybe I'll hand it down to my 8 year old when he starts to drive.
