Author's Review
I bought these speakers after *much* research, talking, listening, analysing, etc. I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a decent set of front components for my car. I wanted something that would be a good match for my Alpine CDA-7878 head unit and McIntosh MC420 main amplifier. I kept coming back to Focal and settled on the Polykevlar series, due to outstanding reviews by people who have used them. Ideally I would've bought a set of the Utopia series, but given the money I had to play with, these appeared to be the way to go.
I am very satisfied with these 165K2's. The sound is bright, clear, and crisp. These are very efficient speakers and sound great at both low and high volumes. Very accurate reproduction of high female vocals while still being able pump out solid midbass with a good, full mix between the two. I have these crossed over at 80Hz and they bump along great.
Good solid construction, kevlar reinforced cone, cast basket, bi-ampable, big beefy magnet, surface/flush mounting options for tweeters, pretty good 18db/oct crossover (would've liked to have seen a better one incl. though), 200W max (100W nominal), 60Hz-20kHz.
These speakers retail for $1200cdn but can be found for about $800cdn around Toronto. I paid $585cdn ($355usd) after shipping, etc mail order out of the USA. Expensive for a set of 6.5" components, but worth every penny in my humble opinion.
