I first saw the
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat J3982 while setting up an online registry at Walmart.com. I was going to put a seat like Zack had had when he was a baby,
Fisher Price Infant-to-Toddler Soothing Rocker. When I saw the
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat I knew it was the one I wanted!
I received my
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat at my baby shower. Several online friends, on Epinions and off, pitched in with
MaryTara to get this for me as one of my gifts. I was excited when I opened the package and couldn't wait for Jesse to get here so that we could use it.
Matt put the
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat together for me about two weeks before Jesse got here. It was very simple and took him maybe five minutes and a Phillips screwdriver. The frame snaps together pretty easily. The frame is 24" x 28", and is 13" tall. These measurements are at it's widest or tallest points. There are a few screws that need to be used, but the instructions are very detailed and show you exactly where they go.
Once the frame is together, and the soothing unit are in place, the top of the seat has a pocket in the back that the top of the frame slides into and comes down about half the seat. The rest of the seat wraps around the frame and is held together with Velcro. The sides are also held in place, on the back, with a strap and a buckle. This seat isn't going anywhere unless you want it to! The seat is a soft cream/beige color with light brown leaves scattered about. The leaves actually look like butterflies to me, but to each his own.
There is also a plush, cream colored insert that offers support to your baby's head and body. The crotch strap fits thru a slot in the insert, as well as the side belts. Each belt clips to a buckle on each side of the crotch strap. These ensure that your baby isn't going to fall out. Only is the chair gets tipped over while baby is in it can s/he fall out. The infant would need help tipping the chair over, though, because of it's stance. The "feet" of the chair have non-slip grips on them to keep it from sliding around, as well.
Jesse loves his
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat! especially on the third setting, which vibrates and plays one of eight songs or lullabies. There is a slide on the front of the soothing unit. The off position is on the left. Moving the button to the right you can choose music only, vibrate only or the third setting is both, which is his favorite. He also loves to watch CMT, so sometimes we just set it to vibrate so he can watch TV and hear the music. It's not very loud, but it can be enough to be annoying when you're watching TV. As long as the chair is vibrating, he's happy. He often falls asleep in his chair and gets ticked if you take him out of it.
The
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat takes three "C" batteries. We've had the same batteries in since Jesse was born on April 26 and they're still going strong! We use his chair daily, and often for an hour or more at a time, depends on if and when he wants out. The music and vibrations only last about 15 minutes before it shuts itself off. Jesse usually starts to fuss about this time, so I flip the switch to another setting and then back again to start the 15 minutes over.
We've even taken Jesse's
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat on vacation with us. When we went home to visit family in the beginning of May, it went along. The front legs folds down against the back of the chair, so that it is basically lying flat in the back of the car. Because it is so light, we put it on top of our bags and such.
The
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat also comes with a small bunny that hangs over baby's head by a piece of fabric that it is fastened to by Velcro for easy removal. The light green colored toy bar that it is attached to is made of plastic, and top of the toy bar is shaped like a leaf. Under the leaf, a mirror is permanently mounted so that your baby can either look at himself or swat at the bunny. The toy bar fits into a hole on the left side of the chair, where it snaps in place. You can swing the toy bar around so that the toys no longer hang over you child so that you can remove them from the chair or in case the child gets tired of them. Jesse is annoyed with the toy bar at the point. It blocks his view of the TV. Maybe when he gets a little older he will want to play with the bunny. Right now, though, he can't stand it, so we don't attach the toy bar at all.
The
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat is easy to wash. Just remove the seat from the frame and take the belts and straps from the insert and wash them in the washing machine in cold water on a gentle setting. You can then place it in the dryer on low heat/gentle. It also says to remove it from the dryer right away. The bunny can also be washed and dried in the same manor. I've washed our seat and insert a couple of times and they've always come clean, I was them right away depending on the mess. If it's a little spit up, I can use a cool, wet washcloth and it'll wipe off.
My only real gripe about the
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat is that it only holds children up to 25 lbs. Jesse is over 12 lbs and he's barely 2 months old now. I don't look for him to be able to use it very long. It doesn't have a volume control, either, but it is pretty quiet when it plays music, so it doesn't bother me. The vibrating is almost noiseless so we often have to touch the chair to see if it's still moving if the music isn't on.
I'm so glad that we got the
Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat at the baby shower!! Jesse loves it, and so do we since it makes him so happy. It gives me a break because he thinks that he needs to be held all of the time. I've even had a few friends comment that they want to get one for their babies. I told them that if they didn't get it at their baby shower to buy their own because I don't know what I'd do without ours!
