Author's Review
I received this monitor as a gift at my baby shower and thought it would be just fine for when my baby arrived. I liked the fact that there were two handsets, and that the base would light up when there was a noise from baby. Those were about the only things that I liked. The handsets are quite large, they are actually bigger than the portable telphones we have in our house. They are also extremely heavy. They have a buckle on the back so you can strap them onto you as you walk around, but due to their large size, it created more if an irritation than comfort of knowing your child was okay. The antenna on the handset is very long and obtrusive. The entire design seems very odd to me. The base is also very large, and unlike the handset, does not weigh a lot at all. It was always falling off the nightstand because the simple weight of the cord would pull it off. I figured since the handsets were so large they must have good reception and sound, the antenna itself is about six inches long, but NO. The sound quality was absolutely horrible. No matter which channel we changed it to, the static was unbearable. To make matters worse, one of the handsets stopped working after two days. I brought the product back and exchanged it for a new one, hoping maybe we had just received a bad one. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The second one was just as poor quality as the first. You could not take the handset far away from the base without it cutting out every few seconds. The static never let up. It interceppted other signals all of the time. The handsets required 3 "AAA" batteries and they were not rechargeable like many other baby monitor models. The batteries were not included which added to my aggravation. Overall, this monitor was awkwardly big, poor in sound quality, unable to be recharged, and did not work unless you were within a few feet of the base. After two weeks of trying to cope, I actually threw the base away and saved the handsets to be used as play toys for the children I babysit for. I purchased a new, more expensive monitor and am very happy. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.
