Decent buy if you don't mind the static
Pros:
inexpensive, simple, portable, durable
Cons:
too much interference, picks up other conversations and noises
The Bottom Line:
This is great for an inexpensive monitor. However, often times there is so much interference that I might as well not have a monitor in our baby's room.

Author's Review
When we registered for our shower gifts, my mission was to find an inexpensive, easy-to-use baby monitor without all of the bells and whistles. The Fisher Price Sounds 'N Lights Monitor met our needs.
The monitor retails for about $30 at Target. It comes with a base transmitter for baby's room and two handheld receivers.
The transmitter has an AC-adapter and offers a battery power option. It also features a low-battery indicator and a built-in nightlight.
Each receiver is AC- and battery-powered capable, making it portable. The receiver also features a low-battery indicator light. All three pieces take AA batteries.
The receivers have indicator lights on the front that light up in response to your baby's noise levels, letting you "see" when she is active. This feature is especially nice when you cannot hear the monitor because of other distractions or noise, such as feedback from the monitor itself.
The system features two channels, which is supposed to reduce the amount of interference. However, interference remains an ongoing problem we face with this particular monitor.
While there are two channels for your use, we have only ever been able to choose channel "A" without interference. In fact when it is on channel "B," we only hear a loud humming noise that overpowers any other sounds. It's as though we don't get a signal in our home for that particular channel, making it unusable from day one.
There have been many nights when our daughter's sounds have been drowned out by a neighbor's radio station. We've woken up many times to muffled country music streaming through the speaker.
Just weeks ago, our monitor picked up another baby's cry as if it were in our own home. I was then startled to hear his mom's voice, comforting and soothing him back to sleep...though she sounded as if she were right in our house! That same day and for two more to come, our monitor began giving us a loud feedback of static and buzzing. We turned off the monitors for a couple of days before the problem resolved itself and we were again able to use them.
Pros: simple, portable, durable, lights up with baby's sound levels, reasonably priced, easy set-up
Cons: static, noisy feedback, can't use both channels
If you are looking an inexpensive baby monitor with simple features, the Fisher Price Sounds 'N Lights Monitor might do the trick. However, be aware that your baby's crying may not be the only thing you hear at night.
