Expected better quality

Date of Review: Jun 2, 2009

The Bottom Line:  I would not buy this again. It's not terrible, but it's not good enough for the money it costs.
Bought the Fisher & Paykel 18 months ago for its counter-depth size and sleek look. At the price, expected top quality. Not so. The plastic in the fridge is so flimsy that an inside side panel got chipped as soon as I touched it lightly with a shelf. Very thin plastic!

Shelves do not glide out, so cleaning is not very easy. (They slide out of the plastic molding, not very easily, hence we chipped the plastic.)

No room for gallon milk bottle, or even my ice tea jug, in door shelf. And there is not much flexibility of moving the shelves in the door. You're stuck with one height for the bottom shelf, since the second shelf is one piece and cannot be moved up very high. (There is a piece in the middle toward the top to attach the higher shelves, which come in the more convenient, narrower sizes . It gets in the way of trying to move the one-piece shelf up high.) Top shelves really cannot be moved because their covers are attached to top of the door.

We like the bottom freezer, since we use fridge a lot more than the freezer. It does not have shelves in the door, but that's probably better since the freezer is not that deep and you need the depth in the drawers. The shallow shelf is nice for ice trays (we didn't get the ice maker) and flat boxes.

Very high energy consumption - one of the worst in its class.

All in all, I'm sorry I spent the money on this. Should have gotten the GE counter-depth fridge.

Pros
Sleek, counter-depth, quiet, looks good.
Cons
Poor quality interior materials, slim door shelves, high energy consumption, layout not well thought out.
