Author's Review
The latest techno compilation disc is by the same recording company that did Pulse. I was only hoping that they wouldn't let me down, and they didn't. I had the honor to dance to most of the tracks this past weekend. These songs, if that's what you want to call them, kick butt. From the opening track to the closing track. The tracks even seem almost connected in some strange way, flowing smoothly like Pulse did. I believe that these songs will be more popular than Pulse's for I have recognized many from movies. Bottom line, it's a wonderful dance CD.
Before I get started breaking down the songs, I can't help but compare them to Pulse. These CDs are like brother and sister. I can't separate them. Fired Up might as well be called Pulse 2.
Track 1 is "I Turn to You" by Melanie C. which I first heard from Bend It Like Beckham. Great song, great beat, great energy, great singer, etc. Starts the CD on the right note. I can't quite crack how to dance to it though. European dance is different from the mostly urban American dance.
"Around the World" might be the most popular or known track on the disc. La, la, la... Yep, that's the one. Save it for Saturday night. It gets annoying after a long while. Plus, what does it mean? I think I get it though...it's cute.
"Barbie Girl"...(nervously looking around for guy friends)...um, I like it.
"In a Dream" is the song all the chicks want to dance to. I know, believe me. Plus, everyone seems to know it. Strange, I didn't. It's sweet with a smooth, flowing melody by someone I've never heard of...Rockell. It will be around for a while.
Put on track 12. I dare you. The entire song consists of six words. The same beat. The same voice. The same tone. I think they recorded 10 seconds for it and used it for the entire 4:00. I like it.
"This is Your Night" may be my favorite song on the entire disc. I don't know what it is. I first heard it from the SNL movie "A Night at the Roxbury" and it just doesn't go away. This is why people dance to songs. This is why they take dances seriously. This song stands for something special while having a head-bobbing beat.
The last track I will mention is one everybody should know. "Blue" may be the strangest techno song in recent years, yet it rocks. While it's radio airplay was hopping back in 1999, it can know be preserved on this wonderful disc. Da, ba, de, da, ba, di...
Thus, Fired Up delivers. It is a CD I will always cherish for I bought it during one of the high points of my life. I had an awesome weekend, part of the reason being this disc. I'll quit rejoicing and leave it to the consumer to see how wonderful Razor & Tie is. Great CD.
