Fine Cooking: More Than Fine

by   clicker ,  Jul 21, 2000
Pros: Useful; beautiful photography; quality contributors
Cons: Bi-monthly; few simple recipes in recipe form
Review: I didn't expect to like this magazine.

I took advantage of one of those "first issue free" deals to try this magazine when I was in one of my cooking moods. I expected it to be like "Gourmet" or "Bon Appetit",...

Fine Cooking truly is "for people who love to cook"

by   pjp2 ,  Mar 1, 2002
Pros: Very educational; lots of "why" to go along with the "how-to"
Cons: Fewer recipes in each edition than some other options
The Bottom Line: If you cook for pleasure or just want to sharpen your skills, you can't do any better than Fine Cooking.
Review: I subscribe to six cooking magazines - that's right, six: Taste of Home, Quick Cooking, Light & Tasty, Cooking Light, Bon Appetit, and my all-time favorite, Fine Cooking. I will renew my subscription to most of them and love them all for different...

Pros: Accurate Recipes & Beautiful Illustrations
Cons: None
Review: Fine Cooking blows every other cooking magazine out of the water. It is a bit pricey, but it is worth every penny. The feature article are extremely well done with helpful hints, and at least three or four recipes. Their recipes are illustrated...

Brush up on your technique!

by   magcc ,  May 19, 2000
Pros: Useful information, Clearly presented.
Cons: A kitchy section of reader-supplied "tips"
Review: This is a really useful cooking publication. Unlike Gourmet, it has no filler stuff on travel or hotels. It doesn't assume that you know how to do everything, or how to use everything.

Instead, most articles are about a technique, or a type...

Techniques & chemistry

by   virginiet ,  Sep 18, 2000
Pros: Great reviews
Cons: none
Review: Have you ever heard someone say : give a man a fish, he will eat today. Give a man a fishing rod, he will eat everyday.
Fine Cooking is a fishing rod.
Once you understand the techniques and the food chemistry, you can virtually make anything...
