Must Be From A Different Time
Date of Review: Nov 25, 2000
I don't know what it is...why is it that almost every single Final Fantasy makes the same mistake over and over again...when they had it right the first time. The first Role Playing game i ever played was Final Fantasy 1 on the Nintendo. Since then i've played them all and the same thing keeps upseting me about that...LINEAR STORYLINE. It never fails the game goes step by step railroading you through the plot that is hardly of your choicing...in the first one you were able to go anywhere that you really wanted almost from the begining...now in everyone since you have no other real option but to go city to city or dungean too dungean...what happened to the oldies. Some of us still do remember a time when game play and plot where more important then Graphics and Cut Scenes. Where it was more fun to do whatever you wanted in the games and you gave the main character any sort of personality that you wanted. A game where it was challenging to play and not impossible to find everything without having to go online or buy a cheat book.
Sorry about hat little rant I just had a lot of high expectations for this latest installment in the series. i was really hoping that they would go back too the Class system that they had in the first one...i was hoping that they wouldn't force you onto their storyline and leave nothing too the imagination. And most of all i was hoping that i didn't have to go through the annoyance of learning different ablities by the weapons and armor that you use.
All right so how about a structural review on the game...Graphics were impressive and the fight sense really didn't change much from FF8...infact in a couple of fights i half expected too see Squal come out but hey it was late. Music in the game is enjoyable much like again FF8. Notice a trend yet. Although i do have to say that i am not through the entire game yet...i just can't seem to be able to keep my eyes open long enough to do so...the fight sense offer their own little annoyance. All the enenmies seem to cast magic spells that take too long and get repeatitive...much like this review i would say but i am trying to find something semi good too say about this game.
I don't know like i said in the begining i grew up on the old school games. I was really hoping for a game that would be more fun too play then too look at. Perhaps by the time 10 comes out things well change...but i'm not holding my breath and i am not recommending this game to many people
