A Sherman tank with Ferrari lines

by   stacey__e ,  Apr 26, 2007
Pros: Playability, Construction, Hardware, Classic Lines
Cons: Stock pickups are way too bland for this bass
The Bottom Line: Buy this solidly built classic bass. Get the color you like and set it up to your style. Spring for new pickups. Rule the world from the bottom up.
Review: I have been an avid Fender bass fan for quite sometime. In the electric bass world Fender did invent the wheel. The most valuable bass I own is a dead stock 1970 Jazz. But as beautiful as it sounds and looks, it can be a workhorse to play (couple neck ...

Great Bass for low $$$

by   pontiac-gto ,  Jun 20, 2002
Pros: Great sound, fast neck action, low cost
Cons: a little heavy, wood imperfections
The Bottom Line: You will not find a better bass for the $300 you can buy one for.
Review: I bought this bass after playing a Yamaha for several years. The neck was one of the first things that I noticed when I picked up the bass. It has fantastic action, and the long scale length really helps the tone and sustain. I will never buy a short...

Undoubtedly the best bass I have played with!

by   cripper ,  Jul 24, 2001
Pros: excellent sound quality, easy to play with
Cons: extremely expensive for a bass guitar!
The Bottom Line: The word "Fender" already makes this sound like an extremely nice bass guitar.
Review: I have played with many bass guitars throughout this past year, but I do not think any of these basses are as good as the Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. I have played with Squier basses (dislike the sound quality), Yamaha...

Often Imitated

by   corndoggz ,  Dec 8, 2000
Pros: sounds good, a well-known sound that you'll need as a working bass player, good value
Cons: some inconsistency in construction between different examples of the same model (try before you buy)
Review: By mid-2000, Fender's popular American Standard line of basses and guitars was replaced by something described nebulously as the "American Series". I guess they got tired of the term "American Standard" reminding people of toilets...

Excellent and smooth, oh yea

by   nanokat ,  Feb 8, 2001
Pros: Good action, good tonal range, very well constructed
Cons: performance varies on some basses of same make
The Bottom Line: An excellent bass - built very well, plays very well... but there is inconsistency in the production wiring quality, try before you buy.
Review: It's the purple 5 string Fender Jazz Standard, made in beautiful downtown Mehico. I've owned this lovely piece for about 3 years now, it hath served me extremely well - and the price for which I purchased it is unbeatable for the quality of the bass....

Fender American Jazz V

by   daythree ,  Mar 27, 2002
Pros: Classic Fender sound and action String spacing
Cons: Neck width may be too much for smaller hands
The Bottom Line: Try and copy this tone with any gadget you want.....there is no substitute.
Review: First of all the $400-$500 dollar price tag is a misprint. These basses run around $1000 or so new, the Mexican version is the cheaper one. I found mine for $600 used. I haven't had the pleasure of trying out one of the Mexican models, but the American...

Fender All The Way

by   bizach ,  Jul 31, 2001
Pros: The sound the clarity the boldness its like as if god himself made it
Cons: Wont fit in a standard bass gig bag
The Bottom Line: Buy it or youll never understand true bass guitar beauty. That was the best i could come up with besides its the best bass you can buy.
Review: Fender is obviously one of the greatest guitar producers ever. But this bass is probably the best u can buy withiout feeling like you bought a really cheap car. The looks are great but its one of the biggest bass you can buy. It wont fit in most...

a bassist heaven

by   djeter2277 ,  Dec 22, 2001
Pros: playibility is awesome, durable
Cons: basically none for the price
The Bottom Line: i would recommend the jazz bass for its easy playability and its wide varitey in tones
Review: The fender jazz bass is in my epinion one of fenders best ideas. It is used by thousands and for a reason. The j bass, as it often called, is very fast to play because of its very thin neck. I am in a band and this is the only bass i bring. The jazz...

The Perfect Bass

by   lukefields ,  Oct 5, 2001
Pros: Good Looks, Classic Fender Tone, Great Sustain
Cons: Gets a little heavy after standing for a while
The Bottom Line: The Fender Jazz Bass is the perfect bass for anyone. It looks good, plays great, and there is no real reason to get anything different.
Review: Fender hasn't changed this much since its introduction in the 1960's. And it still rules. I purchased the Sunburst model at Mars Music. The bass has great ringing tone - very rich and full. I am yet to find a dead spot on this bass. The Neck is very...

Fender is my choice of bass.

by   dumptruck ,  Nov 21, 2003
Pros: This is my baby(5 string, ice blue).
Cons: Could've had a matching headstock and pickup covers.
Review: Fender: A bass I aspired to get since I started playing at 19 years old. Five years later I have four five stringers, all by Fender. The nice, warm tone is soooooo..... Uh? Well, nice. What would be better? A neck-thru version with ALL the chrome ...
