Author's Review
Recently I took up an interest in learning to play the guitar. I started messing around with an old beater guitar we had laying around the house and realized that it would be better to buy a new guitar then be frustrated to death with an old guitar always wondering if that horrible sound was my fault or the guitar's. So I took a trip down to the Guitar Center to check out some options. Not knowing much about guitars I decided to ask the guy working there what he thought a fair priced beginner guitar was. Without hesitating he suggested the Fender DG8S Acoustic Guitar Package. Since I couldn't ask any intelligent questions as to why this was a good choice, I decided to trust the dude. I mean for $200 it's not like I was going to have to take out a loan to buy the thing, right? So I took it home and started to play. Lo and behold, the guitar is wonderful! After learning a bit more about guitars themselves I can tell you why it is in fact a wonderful guitar:
Features: Pretty basic looking guitar. Dreadnought body shape and a 20 fret neck. Probably the best thing about it is the solid spruce top. For $200 you won't find a whole lot of solid anything tops. Also the guitar comes with a gig bag, some picks, a spare set of strings (Fender phosphur bronze), shoulder strap, instructional DVD, and a tuner. The DVD is a bit poorly done, but hey it's free. The tuner is actually really good though.
Sound: Very lovely sound. Clear crisp tone, not muffled or muted or anything of the sort. The only problem I've heard of with sound is that sometimes the low E buzzes a little. I personally have never had the problem, but if you do I've also heard that it can be fixed just by changing the bridge pins.
Action, and Finish: Has a very good looking natural finish, that I personally wouldn't change for any other finish. Some have said the action on this guitar is too high, I've also heard too low, but for me it is just right. And it's easy enough to have that adjusted anyway.
Durability: Very durable guitar. A lot of people get this for a beater guitar because of the price, but it plays like a much more expensive guitar. So it's durable and sounds great. Also it stays in tune very well. I've only had to tune it a couple times in the month or so I've had it.
Overall: Overall I would definitley recommend this guitar to anyone. Especially beginners, but even experienced guitarists. I haven't played many guitars but out of the few I have played it is by far the best. It's good looking, great sounding, fairly priced, extremely durable, and comes with some extras. That is tough to beat in my book.
