Author's Review

I’ve also wanted a shredder. Ever since I worked in an office and my main job was to shred paper. I thought that it was the neatest thing!

So, I wanted to buy one for our home office. The one that I used at my summer job shred the paper into strips. Sometimes, if I was really bored, I’d take all those strips and reshred them so they’d take up less room in the plastic bag. So I knew for at home, I wanted a confetti shredder.

We looked at several different places and decided on the Fellowes ShredMate Confetti Cut Shredder for a couple of reasons.

One, it was cheaper than most we had seen. We paid $29.99 for it.

Two, it was small. We live in a three bedroom apartment, but space is still limited. It can fit on our of our desks and if we aren’t using it, it fits nicely in a small space in the closet.

Three, it shreds the paper into confetti. That’s my favorite part.

Now, let me describe the unit.
It has a motor where the actual blades are and the on/off switches are that sits on top of a plastic bin. The entire size of the unit is about 8 by 6 (rough estimate, I know that it’s not a foot long for sure) and it stands about 8-10 inches tall.

The bin, though made of plastic, is very sturdy. The motor part is pretty heavy so it’s a hard plastic. On the top of the motor unit is a button that slides back and forth. It is set on FFWD meaning when you stick a piece of paper in the slot, it turns on when the paper passes by the sensor. There’s a rewind button too in case there’s a jam. If the paper is stuck, turn the switch to rewind and it spits the paper back out at a slower pace to unjam itself. There’s one more button and when you move the switch to it, the motor runs continuously and all you do is stick the paper in.

There’s a slot on the top where you stick the paper in. It can take around 3-4 pieces of paper at a time. It’ll take envelopes, but make sure you take all the contents out, especially if it’s thick. It’ll get stuck if you don’t.

After you’ve been shredding awhile, the confetti piles up in the bin. All you do is take the motor off and press the paper down. You also can take a look at the blades and take any other pieces out of it. The thing that is really good about this shredder is once you take the motor off, a switch is triggered and the blades aren’t able to move at all. So if you need to clear out some of the paper, you can without fear of the blades coming on.

If you’ve been shredding for quite awhile, the machine will stop itself when it gets too hot. This is to keep it from over heating. Once it’s cooled for awhile, it’ll work again.

We have really enjoyed our shredder. It works well and we’ve had it several months without any problems. None at all. I would recommend this shredder for those that want the confetti pieces instead of the strips and if you don’t have much space. This is also cheaper than most confetti shredders because of its size.
