Heating Element Flaws

Pros: Coffee at right temp. Easy to clean.

Cons: Heating Elements don't last!

The Bottom Line: Ok for occasional use, buy a better unit from another company with a timer, temp control, and closed carafe for every day use.

I've owned all three sizes in this line. The 4, 8, and 12, cup units. Before Farberware was bought out by Salton, customer service was better. The heating elements on all three models rust and rot away from "NORMAL" use and care in about a year of everyday use. The heating elements are hard to find and cost more than half the cost of a new unit. Farberware's policy WAS to replace with a new unit, you paid for freight. This is no longer, the units have a chronic design flaw in the heating elements longevity, and they now only offer a "refurbished" unit with a 90- day warranty. Add shipping, and you've bought a "new" FCP240!!!

I've used these for years and given them as gifts, I will now re-think about using them at all, let alone giving them as gifts to last a little more than a year.....IMHO
