A good RPG for beginners and intermediate RPGers

Fallout will please roleplaying fans everywhere. Set in a post apocalyptic world, Fallout starts out with you (the hero) leaving the safety of your underground village to search for a water purifier which is essential for the continued survival of your village.
The outer world has a similar feeling to the 'MAd Max' movies without the cars. Through many towns you interact with seperate factions and gangs, often invoving your self in quests, or trying to avoid being killed!
The gaming system
You can design your own character or use a predesigned character. You have several statistics which combined with some 'characteristics' give you a list of percentile abilities (e.g. small gun 65% - meaning you have a 65% chance of hitting an enemy in normal conditions!).
The system is very easy to use and not to complicated even for the complete novice.
The World
The world is set out in several sections. Based on a vast grid, you have many wilderness boxes and several 'towns' such as Junktown etc. In the wilderness you can encounter travelling tradesmen or evil creatures out to get you.
The plot
The plot was a little weak, leaving you grasping to find where to go next. I spent a lot of time wandering from one site to another. However, there are many sub plots to keep you interested until you stumble across the main plot!
The gameplay
The game is very intuitive allowing you to do most things with your mouse. The combat is particularly easy, aiming at an opponent gives you a pecentage chance of hitting. You can either shoot or try a different opponent. You often meet peole who will join your group, but be careful not to stand in front of them as they often manage to accidently hit you in combat!
Overall
The graphics and sound are very atmospheric adding a little excitement to the game. Although the plot is weak, I found the game to be very enjoyable with some neat touches here and there. This game is definately a must for most rpgers out there.
(My advice though, by the Interplay 15 year anniversary pack, it comes with this game and many other cool games making this a great buy!)
