Author's Review
Fallout is one of the best roleplaying games youll probably ever find. It has easy to learn and easy to use game play. The storyline is incredible and the side quests are unbelievably detailed. One of the best feature, is the character generator. With the character generator you can make unique characters. You can specialize in unarmed, stealing, and energy weapons and all sorts of other combinations. Another thing are your traits, you can choose faster healing and gifted if you want. Faster healing increases how fast you heal, and gifted increases all of your primary stats by 1. The primary stats are strength( increases your unarmed damage and hit points), increases youre hit points and resistences), perception ( increases your accuracy) agility (increases action points), and luck (improved chance of criticals and random encounters).
The game play 5/5
The game play is based on a click to walk, like diablo. But the combat is turn based. In combat you use actions points for just about everything, for moving, shooting, and using items or skills. EXAMPLE- say you have 8 action points, and have a combat shotgun, when on burst takes 6 action points, you could shoot and reload, or shoot and move, or just move, not to mention a number of other things. I think the combat system is simple and well done. Lets all clap hands for interplay, CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP. To pick up items or open doors and the such, just by right clicking. That about raps it for the game play now lets mov on to the next best bart of the game, the:
Storyline 5/5
The story starts of with you having to leave the vault in search of a waterchip. But before you go any where you have to navigate through some caves to get to the outside world, which brings up the world map. The world map has 10 locations you can visit. Im not going to tell you them because its fun to find them out on your own (yes I know what they are!!) Once you find the water chip, and bring it back you will get a new quest. You will have to destroy where the mutant army is located and where it is being created. There are tons of numerous side quests also. Half the fun is the option to be good and help people or be evil and kill everybody, or both or just stay out of peoples affairs, which I highly recommend you dont. You will be hard pressed for experience points once you get to a high level, and the side quests give you good amount of exp. points.
Leveling up.
The leveling up system is pretty much the norm, you get more hp, and skill points to distribute to your skills. One thing that is special, is that you get a perk every 3 levels (4 if you have the trait skilled). A perk is something like strong back( increases maximum carry weight), sharpshooter(increases accuracy), toughness( + 3 hp right there and then), and action boy(+1 action point). Those arent all though, theres hundreds of them allowing youre character to be unique as possible.
The graphics 5/5
The graphics are pretty good all around, except for when you kill someone. sometimes you can blow a hole in their side (with the shotgun of course), blow them into pieces with explosives, rip holes in there chests with machine guns, watch them run around in circles after youve used the flame thrower on them, or the most gory one, use an energy weapon, and watch there skin melt off and there guts fall in a pile. I have not encountered any bugs, in fact Ive encountered more bugs with my WORD PERFECT 9 program. No slowdowns either.
The sound 5/5
The music is great and the sound effects are great, not to good on the explosions, but they make up for it with the death sounds (described above in the graphics). Ive encountered no sound bugs or music repeats either. I sorta liked the weird music and sound effects though.
The learning curve 5/5
It took me within a minute to learn and its been easy to use ever since. I think the controls are fun and creative.
The replay value 5/5
You can beat the main quests with one character and feel like you havent beaten it all the way, so you start a couple new characters to experiment with and try to complete all the side quests. Kind of gets repetitive though.
Overall 5/5
A great game and if your not sure about buying it, you should rent it or download a demo. I fell like my review is nothing compared to the actual game, so if you really want to experience rad scorpions and mutants give this game a whirl.
The updated
I have had many a memories, the first time I met the brother hood of steel (big guys in power armor with chain guns) I tried to steal from them, got caught, got blown in half and I hadn't saved in a long while (imagine that). Usually I feel good when I complete a side quest. I felt sad at the end of the game, and they always have found away to make me laugh even in the most serious part's of the game. They did it again at the end, and of course they put in more gore than they had too.
