Author's Review
Hi there! I now there is all this hype about everyone getting laser surgery done. Yes, I would love to have it done because my eyes are really bad. To the point if I have to take my contacts out at night I pray that it is a quiet night where none of my children wake up because if they do, seeing to get to them is almost impossible!
I started wearing glasses in the fourth grade but realized how mean the kids could be in school and HATED it. After all, my family and I were not well off, therefore I had to wear the glasses that welfare provides. You know, the ones that are almost bigger than your face! It was a constant battle for my parents to get me to wear my glasses.
About five years later when I was in high school, my friend's mom brought me to her eye doctor and out of the goodness of her heart she bought me my first contacts. I have been wearing contacts for the last thirteen years but because of the fact I rarely take them out I am now suffering the side affects.
Last year when I had my eye doctor's appointment, the Doctor looked right at me and said, "you are a perfect candidate for the laser surgery, in fact I would highly recommend it to you because of the the prolonged use of you wearing contacts and falling asleep with them the blood vessels around your cornea are swollen and starting to grow into the pupil."
What! I can't have surgery! It is so expensive. I would love to but at the same point in time I have four children to support and worry about. There is no way I could see this possible. After hearing about my financial problems he told me about this new contact called Focus Day & Night.
It all sounded great, all but the price that is, they were double the cost of the contacts I had been wearing for years. He explained to me that these particular contacts are made of silicone and are a bit thicker than the acuvues I was wearing. He then went on to tell me that with these contacts I would not have to worry about taking them out at night or cleaning for a WHOLE month! Why, you ask. These contacts are made to allow six times the amount of oxygen to go through them which prevents red eyes, dryness and swelling.
After listening to all he had to say, I figured, why not! Off I went into the little room where they have you try on your contacts. The first thing I noticed upon opening the package and taking the contact out was how much more sturdy they are and a little thicker which he had mentioned. Have you ever went to put in your contacts in and the dang thing kept folding? Not with these, Won't happen! I was real skeptical when I had this contact on finger. How could this feel better when it is thicker? I don't want to feel the contacts in my eyes. Upon putting them in, I COULD SEE! Of course you say, that is why you wear them right?
This was different. I could NOT feel these contacts and unlike other contacts when I moved my eyes (not my head) they stayed where they belonged and from all corners things were clear!
Because these contacts are different than most I was required to go back in for a recheck two weeks after wearing them. Guess what happened on my check up! Not what I would have thought but my contacts had to actually be changed. Yes, you heard right changed and not to a higher prescription. In fact, he had to lower my prescription and the swelling around my cornea, almost gone! Why? Because of the oxygen that is allowed to go through them. Who would have thought that paying a little more would have helped my eyes that much. Lots of my headaches have even ceased.
I know I have mentioned a lot about these contacts costing more money, so I am guessing you want to know how much more. Well, most people when they firsts look at it think it is double when in reality it is only twenty more dollars every six months.
This is how it works. My husband still gets the acuvue and he pays about thirty for a box of six for each eye, where I pay eighty dollars for a box of six for each eye. The thing is, his will only last up to three months, (if none are torn, lost, and he has to keep cleaning them and taking them out) where as mine will last for six months and I can wear them day and night and not worry. By the time I need to buy more he has already spent sixty dollars.
I strongly recommend these contacts for people who tend to fall asleep in their contacts, don't have time to clean them or are thinking about having surgery but cannot afford it.
