Author's Review
I've worn rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, which made my poor eyes feel as though they were suffocating! I've also worn "conventional" soft contact lenses, which worked alright, but my eyes would always be red and itchy by the time evening came. I could barely wear them for more than 8 hours without discomfort. When I explained this to my eye doctor, he suggested Focus Day & Night lenses because of how much more breathable they are. What sold me, of course, was the fact that I would be able to wear them for 30 days and 30 nights straight! After getting my trial pair in spring 2002, I've never looked back.
I think that Focus Night & Day lenses are excellent for people who travel. I found mine to be an absolute god-send when I backpacked through Europe. There's nothing worse than trying to take out and clean your lenses in the confines of a tiny lavatory on a moving train! My travel mate wore conventional lenses, but ended up wearing her glasses most of the trip due to the inconvenience of trying to take out/put in and clean her lenses. I, on the other hand, never once had to take out my lenses.
It's also wonderful being able to keep my contact lenses in throughout the night. I used to hate when I'd wake up in the middle of the night and I'd have to fish around on the nightstand for my glasses so I could see. No need to worry about that now. To be honest, my glasses haven't even been out of their case in months!
Also, I used to have issues with conventional contact lenses getting cloudy and blurry while driving at night or while watching a movie in a dark room/theater. I haven't had that problem with Focus Night & Day lenses. My vision stays clear.
Vision can be a little blurry first thing in the morning. Because you don't blink while you're asleep, eye "gunk" does build up on the lens. But a couple of blinks easily remove the "gunk" and you're blur-free in no time.
Also, I'm surprised by everyone saying that they are expensive. Yes, they do cost more than conventional contact lenses, but you also have to CLEAN a conventional lens, which adds to their expense. To me, not having to take out my lenses every night is well worth the extra expense. Plus, Focus Night & Day lenses allow my eyes to breathe so much better than conventional lenses... it's not worth the discomfort just to save a few dollars. They're also very durable - once they're in, they stay in, they don't rip or tear, and they don't slide down my eye.
All in all, I highly recommend Focus Night & Day contact lenses. They are not for everyone, but give them a try and see if they're right for you.
