Product Review

Not Quite Right

by   albertabuilder ,   Jun 7, 2006

Pros:  Aesthetics, crank-up lever, crumb tray

Cons:  A toaster that bread won't fit in! Uneven results.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

Although I haven't had the completely uneven toasting troubles others have noted, it does seem that this unit doesn't toast large slices well around their perimeter. Mind you, you can't really put large slices in the toaster anyway without scrunching them up accordion style, so that might affect the evenness. I'm not talking about big slabs of focaccia -- regular Safeway Select bagged bread is too wide for this thing. And the toasting does seem slowish, although all toasters seem slow when hungry in the morning.

On the plus side, I'm surprised how often I've used the little crank up function for the slots. There's nothing like trying to fish out an English muffin with a fork. And the front trays that pull out for crumb removal beat the old invert-the-toaster, try-to-yank-bendy-metal thing open method.

I haven't used the bagel and defrost functions, so I'm not sure if they actually function any better/worse.

Sure looks nice.. but why, oh why, couldn't they have foreseen simple things like THE SIZE OF A PIECE OF BREAD?
