Pros:  Good gate, decent price

Cons:  Will remove paint & damage walls, but problem easily solved

The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this gate to anyone.

Author's Review

We originally purchased a different gate with a foot pedal because it was way easier to swing it open and shut. My son figured out he could open it by bouncing up and down on the pedal to get the momentum he needed for the gate to open up. He was only one when he figured this out. We needed a gate and we needed one he couldn’t open. We started visiting friends and relatives with baby gates to see which ones he could master and which ones he couldn’t. This was the winner of the “gates Luke couldn’t open” challenge. We have had this gate since he was one, he is now three and still can’t open it.

Initially it was hard for me to open as well, but the latch breaks in over time and becomes easier - but still not easy enough for a child to open. My son has mastered almost all other baby proofing devices so its not to have a gate that can hold him! Its not as necessary now that he is older, but we also use it to keep the dog in certain areas of the house and my three year old would often let him out to play....even though he was supposed to be kept in another room for a reason. I am a very gate-challenged person, but I have no problems with it, so I highly recommend it.

The only con with these pressure mounted gates is that they will wreck your walls. We have come up with a solution to this by putting small wooden blocks against the wall so that the gates mount the wooden block to the wall instead of going directly on the wall itself and chipping the paint and causing “mount marks” on the wall. We painted the blocks white to match the moldings so that they “blend” better and have been a good solution for us.

This gate was very easy to install and stays solid. It blends easily in with the rest of my house and isn’t easy to climb. As previous reviewers stated, it is not appropriate to use as a stair gate.
