Author's Review
This is only the second review that I have attempted, so please forgive me for my amateur abilities. I have been debating whether or not to write a review on this product. I decided, although I only had the Snugli Early Care Carrier for a couple of days, the information I gathered about it might be useful to someone else.
I bought this carrier without doing any research. I knew that I wanted to get some sort of sling, but hadn't given it much thought. I told my mom to pick me one up on her way to visit, since we have one store here and no slings in sight. This was the only one at the store she went to.
Initial reaction (from my daughter Brianna):
She hated it. This is not to say that all babies will! At three weeks all she wanted to do was look around. Some problems she had:
* This carrier has a harness inside to secure the baby and an outside shell that you can snap closed. She was in there like a little burrito. This may be appealing to some babies, nice and womb like, but not her. If you have a baby that likes to move, he/she probably won't like this feature.
* Foam bottom. This foam runs the length of the baby. This further restricted her movements. When the carrier is on, this is the bottom, therefore there are no other alternate positions (as with the soft slings). This foam also makes the carrier a little bulky and awkward to carry.
* Terry cloth "head lining". This is a pillow like lining that encircles the head. Not only did it make her too warm, She was unable to move her head to look around. For babies who aren't looking around a lot the first few months, this wouldn't be that big of a problem.
* She wanted out..period. A very mild tempered baby, that loves to be held, couldn't stand being in this carrier.
Things that you might like:
*The strap is wide, and seems like it would more comfortable than some other slings. It didn't hurt my back or shoulder, but I only used it for a few minutes at a time.
Bottom line:
This carrier was not for us. I suggest, if you think this might be the carrier for you, buy it......but save the receipt. It's always good to try something like this out for yourself. If you do have a baby that likes to look around and is not particularly fond of the burrito wrap, skip it. Also remember that this carrier is only to be used for about the first three months. I bought a regular over the shoulder sling, and she really likes it. They can also be used for years. Good luck. It really pays to keep your baby close to you, whatever product you chose!!
Helpful information that I left out:
The product information says that this carrier can be used from 6-15 pounds (that's how they estimated the three months).
It can only be used in the cradle position. Although you can adjust the strap so the baby is sitting more upright. They say it is easy to breastfeed in, but I didn't find this to be true. I felt that it was difficult to manuever with the hard bottom.
I ended up buying the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. This sling works well for her with the variety of positions you can use. It's also much more light weight, can be used longer, and she can look all around.
