Couldn't live without it
Date of Review: Aug 4, 2000
I purchased this carrier when my son was two weeks old and "my help" was going back home. I realized that holding a newborn with both hands left me little else I could do, so I decided that placing him in a carrier would free me up to least make an effort to start dinner.
This purchase turned out to be one of the best ones I've ever made! My son cried a lot and placing him in the carrier and walking around the house or down to the mailbox would put him to sleep right away. Many nights I ate dinner with him in the carrier to calm him down and get some food in me. This is the main reason why I like this carrier. Nothing else seemed to stop my baby from crying. There are some technical difficulties with using this carrier, as described below.
This carrier can be used in the front with your child facing in or out, or used as a backpack. In the front position, with my son facing towards me, his face was squished, which did worry me a little. That seemed to correct itself as he grew bigger. When using the carrier as a backpack rather than a front carrier, it does take two people to get the child in and out because you really can't see what you're doing. If you are able to sit on a sofa with your child, you may be able to get him or her in by yourself.
As far as comfort, the front-facing position is okay, but for me the backpack position is a little uncomfortable because part of it rubs along my lower back. My husband who is taller, however, does not have this problem. I really don't know how this carrier compares with other soft carriers or the framed ones. Like I said, I loved this product, not so much for its "carrier" use but because it calmed my baby when nothing else would.
The carrier is made from a polyester-type of material that is machine washable. There is also a "bib" that snaps on to protect your clothes when your child is facing you either from the front or the back. It accommodates infants from 6 to 24 pounds.
