Even though I had just about every baby wearing device there was ever made when my second baby was born, I bought myself one of these. It's a top of the line, top dollar baby carrier. I invested the extra money in it because I already knew I liked using the basic front pack carrier. These are wonderful things! I had also used an aluminum framed back pack carried with my oldest child quite a bit. I felt like this soft, lightweight carrier might be considerably more comfortable as a back carrier than the aluminum framed ones I had (and I already had three, ha). The fact that I could also wear baby facing OUTward really intrigued me!
I must say though, for daily use, I used my basic front pack carrier much more often. I don't think I ever really got around to using it as a backpack at all (though I think my husband did), and only used the forward facing position a few times that I can remember. There was nothing difficult about its usability, I was just overloaded with products. I do really like this one and think it is a good investment for the number of things it does. We're fixing to have baby number three, so I'll have another go at it I'm sure!
It's made of durable, washable material in pleasant colors. The price is worth it's versatility. The straps are secured with large plastic clips so installation is pretty easy. The pads make it comfortable to use, not much strain on your body. It even has some clips on it that you can attach toys or a pacifier to. I have used other ones that were more difficult, if not downright impossible, to install alone without practically dropping the baby. I have practically stopped strangers with older baby carriers and asked them for assistance. *Note, it is MUCH easier to completely install the carrier onto your body before putting baby in it!
I had a completely cloth infant carrier by Graco with my first baby (still have it, but haven't used it again- don't know why, it was really good and machine washable)- but it was pretty difficult to get baby into.
The main reason why I think I didn't use this carrier as much as I thought I would was because it was kinda bulky. I used the basic model by the same company for just walking in the yard and such. I saved the deluxe model for going shopping and to six flags, etc. Mainly because I kept this in my car, and my older one which LOOKED older, was kept in the house.
