Author's Review
I purchased the red Eureka Boss Smartvac 4870GZ bagged upright about a month ago to replace a piece-of-junk Bissel bagless vacuum. We recently installed laminate wood and ceramic tile throughout our entire house, so we have no carpet. My 1-yr old Bissel could not vacuum the hard floors without throwing stuff out of the back, and scratching my wood floors. The Bissel made me NEVER want to own another bagless vacuum. It was disgusting and very unsanitary, a nightmare for the allergy sufferer.
I saw all the good reviews on the Eureka Boss Smartvac, and it had all the features I wanted, so I bought one. This vacuum is well worth the $150 I spent! It was easy to put together, and even came with 2 bags. It has a surprisingly quiet, deep powerful hum. The different attachments are great, I use them to vacuum & dust furniture, lamp shades, and blinds. I have a large dog, and the Eureka picks up the dog hair with one sweep.
My two favorite features are the brushroll on/off switch and the turn knob that allows you control the suction power from floor to hose. Since I have all hard flooring I leave the brushroll off unless I'm vacuuming a rug, and it doesn't scratch my wood floors!! YAY! I also LOVE the fact that the brushroll stays off when the vacuum is in the upright position, while I'm using the hose. Again, no worries about scratching my floor or burning a hole in a rug. And here's a note about rugs: The first time I tried to vacuum a rug, I thought the Eureka was going to EAT it, it was so powerful it nearly sucked it up off the floor! This is when that suction control knob comes in handy. I just turned it halfway between floor and hose, and it worked great on the rug.
The foot release pedal and the brushroll switch are a little hard to push, but at least they're not flimsy and cheap. Just make sure the brushroll switch snaps into place when you pull it back to turn the brushroll off.
I LOVE this vacuum! And I am VERY happy I decided to switch to a bagged vacuum, it's so much cleaner and smells better.
