Eureka Mighty Mite 3670 Canister Vacuum
Date of Review: Aug 5, 2009
The Bottom Line: Light weight and small
I recently moved into a condo. I scaled down everything including my vacuum cleaners, giving away my big Electrolux canister . I've had the Shark canister and went looking for that . No luck so after talking over my options with the manager at Bed Bath & Beyond he suggested ordering the 12 amp Eureka Canister Vacuum.
I did not want an upright and I did not want to invest a ton of money into a vacuum since the condo is small and wouldn't need a lot of vacuuming. At only $63.99 with my coupon this seemed to be a workable item for my needs. I ordered it since they had none in stock. I was guarenteed a return if I wasn't satisfied with it. There were no shipping charges andit was delivered directly to my house. I did order a supply of the Eureka Mighty Mite Disposable Dust Bags for the machine in order to save future shipping as these aren't carried in store. The salesperson who was helping me suggested I buy the bags now and avoid future shipping since shipping on my vacuum was free.
I would have preferred a bagless machine but I already had a wish list that was putting me in a high price range and I wasn't going to find anything in my price range if I got too fussy.
This machine is very light weight,9 lbs. Almost a junky light weight but I didn't want to drag anything heavy around so I overlooked this issue. It measures 11 x 8 x 15". It's bright yellow, comes with a combination of on board tools, an upholstery nozzle/dusting brush attachment and a crevice tool that stores in the body of the machine. The carpet head swivels easily. It has a blower port for cleaning work tables.
The 20 foot cord has to be wound up by hand and stored under the machine on the two holding tabs in the under carraige. I'm spoiled, my vacuums always had retractable cords. Another issue is that there is no place to store the hose so it's unwieldy to store when you have limited space. Even dismantled it takes up room andin a condo that's an issue.
The manual that came with the unit offer several accessories that you can purchase separately for the unit. They run from extra 19" wands ($4.09), extra hose ($11.79), motor filters ($1.49), deluxe floor brush nozzle ($11.99) and a deluxe wall-mounted unit that can hold the vacuum accessories (like the hose) for $26.89. I may yet get this if I keep the machine so that it stores more neatly.
The wands come in two 18" sections giving you reasonable reach. The machine has an auto shut off to prevent over heating. The wheels are fairly large and plastic, again they look flimsy even though they are wide wheels. They are more like a kids toy version of wheels. They do not rotate. In order to prevent over heating you should change out your bags and filters on a regular basis.
To Change Bags:
1. Unplug cord before changing bags.
2. Do not reuse bags or overfill bags
3. Change bags frequently.
When replacing bags:
1. Fold bag closure flap down, push behind rubber seal.
2. Remove used bag.
3. Fold bag corners under collar.
4. Close lid
The suction isn't incredibly powerful but you get what you pay for I guess. It does the job well enough. One issue I had was that there is an area on the hose that keeps "opening".This is supposed to adjust your suction power so you can do drapes and the like. It's pinched my fingers several times. This tends to open quite a bit since this is where I hold the hose. Oddly enough when I remove the head or floor cleaning tool the suction is much better. I will be installing wood floors in the future and I understand the deluxe floor brush works very well on wood.
Because Bed, Bath & Beyond is excellent about taking back items you don't want I'm still keeping this vacuum but it is quickly wearing out it's welcome.I know I'm just spoiled having had some really high quality machines. I will keep my eyes peeled for something similar but higher quality.
