Moist, Beautiful and...Fig Newtons? Estee Lauder Pure Color Crystal Lipstick

I recently was having a blue day, so I headed to the Estee Lauder counter at my local Dillard's store to cheer myself up. I had been wanting to try Estee Lauder's new Pure Color line, and since Dillard's was having GWP (gift with purchase) time, I knew it was the right time.

Once I got to the counter, the first thing I chatted with the saleswoman about was the Go Wink and the Go Pout lines - and she informed me that Estee Lauder is phasing those lines out! I was disappointed, but then saw the Pure Color display and was instantly consoled!


About Pure Color:

The Pure Color line is Estee Lauder's newest line of cosmetics. It consists of three lipstick formulas (Pure Color Lipstick, Pure Color Crystal Lipstick and Pure Color Velvet Lipstick), two lip gloss formulas (Pure Color Gloss and Pure Color Crystal Gloss), four nail lacquer formulas (Pure Color Nail Lacquer, Pure Color Velvet Nail Lacquer, Pure Color Crystal Nail Lacquer and Pure Color Ridge Filler), and one eyeshadow, which is Pure Color Eyeshadow.


Why Is Pure Color Crystal Different From Pure Color and Pure Color Velvet Lipsticks?

The differences are:

*Pure Color Lipstick is a long-lasting, non-glossy, regular finish lipstick.

*Pure Color Crystal Lipstick is a slightly glossy, more sheer lipstick with fine gold flecks around the outside of the actual lipstick, giving the color a slight shimmer.

*Pure Color Velvet Lipstick is a more lush, thicker formula with a velvety feel.


About Pure Color Crystal Lipstick:

Pure Color Crystal Lipstick comes in a beautiful, sleek, clear lucite and shiny gold lipstick tube. The tube is square, "chubby" and measures just under 3" long and about 7/8" wide. The bottom is clear lucite with a shade-related plastic insert that lets you know the approximate shade of the lipstick inside. The lipstick tube lid is gold metallic.

The first thing you will notice about this lipstick as you open it is the scent! Estee Lauder calls this a "fig" scent, but it smells EXACTLY like Fig Newton cookies (including the "cookie" part)! It's a fairly strong scent, but is pleasant and is not offensive at all. The second thing you will notice is the fine-milled gold "dusting" that is along the outside of the lipstick. This allows a tiny bit of the gold dust to mix with the lipstick as you apply it, adding a bit of shimmer.

How It Performs:

The finish of Pure Color Crystal Lipstick is slightly glossy. The glossy finish could be compared to that of Revlon's Moisturous Lipstick. It is very moisturizing and makes the lips feel wonderful and supple.

The finish is also somewhat sheer. I would not call this lipstick a full-coverage lipstick because of the sheerness. There is a slight shimmer, with more or less shimmer depending on what shade you choose. The color I chose, Crystal Pink, is a pinky-mauve shade that doesn't have much shimmer other than the little bit it gathers from the gold coating.

The lasting power of this lipstick is minimal. You may get two hours from it. However, Estee Lauder does not claim that this Crystal formula is long-lasting at all. The emphasis with this lipstick is the shine.


All In All:

All in all, I love this lipstick. It's moisturizing, feels great on my lips, and is just plain beautiful. I love the slightly shimmery, glossy finish and the great scent. The luxurious packaging makes this a great "mental health" or
"cloudy winter day pick-me-up" purchase! The price, however, is a little steep. I think that $22 is a little much even for this lipstick.
