Author's Review
I was really keen to try this new lipstick from EL, so I made my way to my local Robinson's-May, and made a beeline for the EL counter. The colors are oh so pretty and perfect for spring and I love everything in this line. I bought the Crystal Coral, as I don't have many coral lipsticks and decided to give it a whirl. I was immediately struck by the lovely and subtle shimmers in the color and the beautiful glossiness of this formula. The other reviewer is right however, in that this doesn't last very long. I drank some water from my bottle after using this and most of the lipstick was on the bottle; that may be a problem for those of you who don't want to spend $22 on a lipstick in the first place. However, the beauty of the color and look may just win out here for others.
As with most lipstick/glossy formulas, I didn't expect to have it last long and the first time you eat or drink, as I mentioned before, the first testdrive will dispute the claim of the other EL lipsticks that say it will last. The company touts this formula as being "sheer electricity, and daring shine" for the lips. That is very true, it goes on pretty sheer, but not so much so that the color doesn't show up. I didn't notice any fig scent, as this line claims, in fact, there is no scent on mine whatsoever, unlike some high-end lipsticks. I did notice on the downside, that the gloss content makes the lipstick seem to "travel" into the outer lines around the lips, so be careful when applying.
The formula, like most glossy lipcolors does not have much pigment in it, like other lipsticks by EL such as True or Go Pout which I understand they are discontinuing. However, being a pretty packaging stickler, the lavish packaging and splendid colors more than make up for the actual lack of staying power, I know, call me superficial, but many of us buy things based on how they look at first. Overall, I think EL has a good thing going here if performance isn't what you're after. There are 13 pretty shades to choose from and you really can't go wrong on the color choices for spring and summer.
