Great Detector!!!

For a cordless (even for a corded model), this Escort satisfies even the most daring of speeders and car enthusiasts.  The selectable alerting capability (Highway, City, Auto) allows the user to avoid many of X band's alerts caused so often by automatic door openers and roadway signage (Those digital signs often found at construction sites).  Don't get me wrong; this model WILL give you many, many false alerts regardless of its setting.  It doe not incorporate a GPS module so it won't remember falses like the Passport 9500xi.

Even though it's cordless, the SOLO gives you the option to use a smart cord as well.  This cord, on the part you'll plug into your vehicle's adapter, has lights on it that will aid in visual alerting as well.  As for the battery life of this unit, you would think you'd be replacing them all the time.  Not true.  I installed a few of the higher-end lithium AA batteries and, after a year of constant use, have replaced them once.  Seriously.  Of course this depends on your your usage and how many alerts you're receiving daily, but expect good, long battery life from the SOLO.

The screen is easily readable and has an "off" feature to conserve its batteries.  This also makes the SOLO "invisible" to others for the most part as the only indication on the front of the unit will be a slowly flashing light indicating which mode has been selected.

In my tests, the unit alerted my to KA band, the most commonly-used police band, at approximately 1 mile (straight-away) and 1/2 mile (around curves, hills, etc.).  Not bad.  Your sensitivity may vary.

All in all, this is an excellent, high-end detector that adds the convenience of cordless mobility.
