Escort Passport 8500 - Reviews both original and X50

Date of Review:  Apr 16, 2005
The Bottom Line: Although the Escort 8500 has a high price tag, it's an excellent companion for your lead foot that is well worth the money.
Review: I purchased my first Escort Passport 8500 back in '00 and had owned it up until last year. Because I rarely go over the speed limit, I made the decision to sell my 8500 along with my collection of miscellaneous radar devices. I have since learned...

~~ LET THE ESCORT PASSPORT 8500 X50 RADAR DETECTOR ESCORT YOU ~~

Date of Review:  Sep 3, 2009
The Bottom Line:

This will not fail you and seems to have a brain of it's own. It not only keeps you safe, but keeps you out of trouble. Top of the line!

Review: As good ole Sammy Hagar would say ~ I can't drive "55"!!! I want to, but I can't. I am what you would call a "Defensive Driver". I am very safe, very aware, and have no other distractions when I drive, i.e.; I don't text, play with the radio, read,...

Great.... When it works.

Date of Review:  Dec 28, 2006
The Bottom Line: Great radar detector; saved me MANY times. Incredible sensitivity picks up over hills! Buy an extended-service plan or cheap because they seem to fail after a year or two.
Review: BACKGROUND

I have had Escort Radar detectors all the way back since they were owned by Cincinnati Radar and the detector had an analog signal meter and was the size of a the entire box the new ones come in.

I've since been...

A worthy upgrade from my ancient Whistler 1490

Date of Review:  Feb 10, 2008
The Bottom Line: A solid radar detector, worth the purchase price, the only improvements i could see would be a sturdier windshield mount, and maybe some form of directional arrows
Review: My previous radar detector was a Whistler 1490, I loved the text display, and it seemed to be a quite sensitive detector, sometimes *too* sensitive, falsing when there was no radar around and I was the only vehicle on the road, it would often false...

X50 is Outstanding!

Date of Review:  Jan 29, 2007
The Bottom Line: I recommend this detector to anyone seriously looking to make the right purchase.
Review: I have had five radar detectors during my 25 years of driving.

I am not an expert, but I can offer an opinion on the X50.

During my 25 years, radar detectors have improved. Each detector I owned seemed to be better than the...

Nice Look Excellent touch!

Date of Review:  Mar 4, 2006
The Bottom Line: I'd say get this, because it has the ultimate in police detection and can upgrade with new technology when it comes!
Review: I bought this off of ebay for about $300 (thanks to taxes). It was to replace my cheap whistler 1730 DE. This thing is sweet and nice. It has the very stylish blue look that can grab attention from your friends in the car, and cars next to you...

Big Bang for the Buck

Date of Review:  Nov 29, 2005
The Bottom Line: Go for it if you have the bucks and a big, heavy, lead-like foot.
Review: Though this unit is not the cheapest on the market for a detector that picks up virtually all types of radar, it is a solid performer.

The X50 red is the size of a large remote control and has decent hardware that makes installation and...

No Falsing but Poor for Photo Radar Detection

Date of Review:  Dec 30, 2006
Review: I have owned the X50 for one year now, I gave my wife my Bel 980.

The big difference between these two units is that the X50 rarely if ever falses whereas the Bel would regularly go off in the city and on the highway. The Bel seems to pick...

This is THE DETECTOR

Date of Review:  Dec 14, 2006
Review: This radar is simply the best radar detected. As mentioned in previous reviews, the radar goes off quite frequently. This is due to the nature that places like starbucks and other places that use electronic doors use a form of radar called "X" band...
