Eragon - a good Fantasy movie

Eragon is the story of a young man discovering a mysterious object he thinks is a rock in the woods one day, only to find that it is actually a Dragon egg, and suddenly a lifetime of adventure is ahead for him.

I went out and bought the special edition of Eragon yesterday without watching it beforehand. I decided to do that because I really enjoyed the book by Christopher Paolini and figured it would be a keeper like other Fantasty type movies I have loved.

I have to say that I did enjoy the movie a lot. The special effects, like Saphira (the dragon), were really good. Very realistic in my opinion. The fight scenes were a little short but the last one was pretty intense and since it was probably the most important that was a good thing.

The actors were also great. Edward Speelers played Eragon just as I had imagined him. For his first film acting job he really blended in and seemed familiar right away. Garrett Hedlund, who is quite the newcomer himself, was Murtagh. He also played him perfectly. My only complaint is that he wasn't in the movie a little more...Well, maybe the next one? I also enjoyed Edward Speelers as Brom and the actor that played the Shade. He was a fantastic Villian.

All in all I'd say the movie is really good. And the Special Edition DVD has a ton of wonderful features the whole family is sure to enjoy. This is a good movie for children and adults too. It's a little bit Harry Potter and little bit Lord of the Rings but still remains to be original.
