It's very difficult to like Epson or its printer, even though it does a great job on pictures. The R300 guzzles so much ink, which is very expensive (almost as much as a cancer drug). Also, the settings are strange--even though I keep printing past all the 2-3 warning countdown messages until the printer stops and waits for a replacement, often I can hear the ink sloshing in a almost-full cartridge that is supposedly "empty." It's very irritating--not to mention expensive.
Epson's chip won't let you use less-expensive brands, EVEN THE ONES THAT ARE ISO 9001-CERTIFIED! Epson won't let these products get past its "counterfeit" error messages. When some of these other quality-certified brands work, they work extremely well!
All in all, it's time for a competitor to get in there and COMPETE with Epson! Ink is a commodity/product not an experimental life-or-death drug!!! It's time for the supplies to decrease substantially in price. Epson is arrogant in pulling this proprietary aspect on consumers over a minor supply such as ink. (Luckily, they haven't figured out a way to force us to use their proprietary paper at $1,000 a ream. Yet.)
