Get something else

I've owned this printer since Sept 07 and the first one failed at 6 months. Getting a replacement went pretty easy but required a credit card for cross shipment which is the industry standard on just about anything. The print quality of this unit is good but it is slow to initialize and the paper feed tray lets your paper curl over and deform while it waits to be used.

I cannot recommend this printer to anybody. The fax quality is pathetic and people at the receiving end have trouble reading documents sent by it. I used hp's for years and decided to give this one a try. I'm going back to hp for my next one. I doubt this one will last until the remaining warranty expires.

Replacing ink cartridges is a hassle as the cartridge carrier doesn't automatically move itself to the replace position when you open the lid. You must sift through the menu on the front panel in order to make it move so you can replace a low cartridge. The only time it will go there automatically is if the printer itself gives you a replace message on the little lcd screen and you push the ok button.

The body of this unit is flimsy compared to other models in this price class. The front panel buttons make it difficult to do simple tasks as you must sift through mutiple menues to perform common actions. HP has those features readily available on the front panel so you can do it and move on.
