Finally No Smudges, And No Streaks!!!
Date of Review: Dec 8, 2001
The Bottom Line: Produces wonderful quality prints, with no smears and smudges.
C80 is the new improved version of the color ink jet printer. Allot of ink jet printers on the market have two problems: they produce prints that have smears and smudges. They also have cartridges which are very expensive to replace. The C80 has an answer to these problems. It has a new waterproof non bleeding DuraBrite ink. It has individual color ink tanks. The tanks have self sealing valves. The tanks won't dry out for at least six months.
Lastly, the tanks are not that costly to replace.
The C80 is a quiet printer. It has a 150 page input tray. If you are thinking of where to put this model, or if you will have the space for it, it measures 11.5 by 25.0 by 17.8 inches with all the trays in place. C80 offers a resolution of 2,880 by 720 dpi. The droplets can go as small as three picoliters. This means that C80 offers allot of possibilities in terms of range in the quality of images and text output.
The output quality is comparable to other ink jet printers on the market. The prints come out with no smears and smudges. It also is not very expensive to replace the cartridges. The black one costs $33 and it costs $12 for cyan, magenta, and the yellow cartridges.
C80 does well in terms of speed. For about twenty five pages of text, it takes three and one half minutes to print. This is faster especially compared to similarly priced printers (Lexmark Z53). Z53 takes one minute longer.
Photo images can be printed on any type of paper. However, they come out with the best of quality on matte paper and semigloss photo paper. It takes about seven minutes to print a photo.
There are other C80 models being produced by Epson. They will be on the market for sale soon. There is the C80WN which will have an integral WiFi wireless network adapter. Another version, the C80N, will come with an external 10/100 Ethernet print server.
I like the C80 printer. Overall, it produces excellent quality output. It really addresses complaints of users that many ink jet printers produce smudgy prints and ones with smears. The C80 does not. Another plus is that it is not too costly to replace the ink cartridges.
