The Epson C88 Plus, Has Many Minuses
Date of Review: Mar 10, 2008
The Bottom Line: There must be better choices. God knows there can't be worse.
If you read through my reviews you'll see I have a Love-Hate relationship with technology. All I want is to do my work in the easiest and most efficient way possible. So, I love technology that works, is easy to use, and produces consistent results.
Unfortunately, the relationship I have with my Epson C88 Plus printer can best be described as "Hate-Hate."
The only reason I bought this printer was I needed a printer, right away, to finish a project on deadline. To make matters worse, I was still running a system that used a serial port for printer connections. The Epson C88 was the only printer I could find locally that still had a serial port as a standard feature.
The Epson C88 Plus had a serial port and it was cheap. Those have proven to be it's only two advantages.
So, Epson C88+, how do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.
I hate the expensive ink you use that never seems to last long.
I hate the inconsistent print results I get. No matter what I do, I can never guess how well the next page will turn out. Sometimes I get a perfect page, nice and crisp, and more often I get a page with white lines in the words.
I hate the way you constantly misfeed the paper unless I press down on the paper as it feeds. If I don't, the paper slips sideways a bit and everything is printed at an angle.
Oh, did I mention how fast the ink runs out. I *really* hate that.
The good news is that we bought a new computer system with newer printer connections. The bad news is that we can't get it to run consistently either. Once we get it worked out though I'm going to invest in a laser printer and take the Epson C88 Plus to the gun range and blast it to pieces.
Hopefully it will serve me better as a target then it did as a printer.
