All Babies Are A Little Lactose Intolerant

According to my pediatrician, all babies are a little lactose intolerant. So if you choose or have to feed your baby formula, they might not react well to the regular Enfamil, Similac or Good Start brands.

My second son was extremely gassy, fussy and constipated on Similac. I thought Similac should be fine, since my first son had no problems on it. After some research and a talk with my pediatrician I decided to switch to Gentlease. It has approximately 1/4 the lactose of "routine" milk-based formula. It's advertised for babies with fussiness or gas.

After about 1 week on it he was a lot less gassy and seemed happier overall. Plus, he was no longer constipated.

Enfamil Gentlease is a little tricky to find. Some supermarkets only carry the smaller can of powdered formula, which would only last around 3 - 4 days. And, it is not readily available everywhere. In Florida, I find the most luck finding it at Publix.

We purchase the 24 ounce canister of powdered formula, since it is not available in ready-to-eat liquid bottles or cans. It also doesn't come in those tiny on-the-go packets that are travel friendly.

But, one 24 ounce canister makes 176 fluid ounces. That lasts approximately 6 days in our household. Our baby eats 36 - 42 ounces a day.
