Eveready Squeeze Light: My Little Light That Shines So Bright
Date of Review: Apr 13, 2008
The Bottom Line: A great little flashlight for backpacks, key chains and kids.
Even though I love my
Mini Mag Lite it's not something that is super easy to carry around with me. I've had the small squeeze lights before and while they were nice to have on a key chain, most of them didn't work all that well. I grabbed one of these about a year ago at Wal-Mart after having to stand in the wind and rain trying to find the right key for the lock on the shed. Not only did I have to find the right key but I had to get it into the slot. After that I swore I was go to get something for the key chain that has the dumpster, shed and garage keys on it and this seemed like the best pick. Fast forward a year; I saw them on clearance at my local grocery store and stocked up on them. You put a sale sign on something and I am all over it.
Eveready Squeeze Light I have to laugh when I look at the package, Eveready and Energizer really make this out to be some kind of super product. Yes, it is strong and well made but using the phrase "high intensity" on the front is a little humorous. This is a disposable item but I am hoping that some day Eveready and Energizer will start some type of recycling program for them because it does pain me to have to toss something like this in the trash. If you have a lot of keys and find yourself fumbling and wasting time trying to get keys into locks, this little baby can help. About the only negative to it is the metal chain that's used to connect it to a key chain is a little on the short side.
To use this all you have to do is press down on the Eveready logo on the side of the flashlight. Well, at least that is what the illustration on the back of the package says, make sure your finger is on the front section of it to get it to work best [the 'ready' part of the logo]. You don't need to squeeze hard so if you are carrying groceries or fumbling with bags this isn't difficult to use. There is no estimated battery life listed but I've had these on my key chain for six to nine months at a time and they have worked perfectly. Are they waterproof? The package doesn't say but I have been caught in rain with one of these and it still worked so it is pretty durable.
The average selling price for something like this is about $1.50 to $2.00 but I grabbed a ton of them at my local grocery store when they were on clearance for $1.00. The downside, they were all orange so all the cool colors were picked through. That's not really a problem though, if I don't use them around the house or shop I can always turf them off on kids around Halloween. The only problem might be the metal chain that is used to attach it to thing, that could present a choking hazard if they start screwing around with it. This is something that I could put into the broods Christmas stockings and they would be elated about it but they are geeks, such a gift might not go over all that well with other kids unless they are in the nerdling species.
The Bottom Line A lot of people are still pretty shocked when I tell them that Eveready is made by Energizer. Most shake their head and say that I am crazy but check out the back of any Eveready battery pack and see the information that is listed, who holds the copyright [Energizer] and the website that you are directed to [www.energizerflashlights.com]. Are Eveready batteries as strong and long lasting as Energizer? Not in most cases but hey, when it comes to something like this you really can't go wrong. It is well made, solid and delivers enough light to get keys into a lock, keep from tripping up or down stairs or uneven sidewalks and when the lights go out in a storm I don't have to hunt around for the bigger flashlights because this is right on my key chain.
As always, thanks for the visit
