Author's Review
In the midst of the reporting of the Chandra Levy-Gary Condit affairs, my wife bought me a fairly interesting little book by famed mystery and true crime writer, Anne Rule. For those of you who don't know her, she is the former Seattle policewoman who went to create a very good writing career. She is also the author of "The Stranger Beside Me" and "Small Sacrifices." She has investigated and written 1400 different cases. She is at ease in her skin as a policewoman turned writer. To get my mind off the shotgun reporting of the various networks and print magazines, I started to read this book whenever my wife would lay it on the coffee table.
What makes Empty Promises stick?
First, it has to do with the universality of the themes. Love, passion and murder exist in every nation and culture. People can identify and easily understand, appreciate the composition efforts by Anne Rule. It's one thing to mention true crimes, but to make the reader show emotions takes considerable talent. Anne draws on her education and various specialized trainings in subjects such as: Serial murder, Sadistic Sociopath, Women who kill and High Profile Offenders. She was one of the contributing members of Justice Department Task Force and VI-CAP (Violent Apprehension Program).
Empty Promises: Case Files is a collection of stories about women who got battered, murdered or murder, plot to kill for love and passion. In the various stories, you will find out that these women often get disappeared and murdered by the men who claim to love them. Meet, for example, a beautiful 25-year-old mother, Jami Hagel Sherer who was reported disappeared. There was no warning and explanation to this disappearance in western Washington. She had met and fallen in love with Steve Sherer. But soon, the need for Steve to control Jami took the best of her. Her car was missing. And she was nowhere to be found.
You will also read about the case of the half-naked woman who was being chased by a crazed man. A witness observed what was happening and called the authorities. That's all he could do to help this poor woman. But, by the time she was located, She was already dead along with her young son. Tragedy. That's quite one!
How much is a fellow human being's life worth?----Please don't ask these murderers!
Read about married Carole Hargis and Teri Depew, the lesbian lover. They loved each other very much, so much so that they agreed to eliminate Carole's husband for the insurance money. All all her attempts to get him killed failed. She ended up doing dumb things to reach her goals.
How many times have we read about women who are intelligent, confident, but fell victim of the violence of their controlling spouses. In Empty Promises: Case Files, you will about all these stories. That's Jami Hagel's story of death. You will also read about infatuation, stalking cases of men who can't take no for an answer. Are you thinking about the O J Simpson's case? Countless others may come to your mind right now!
If you want to purchase a copy of this book, you will find it in available in CD-ROM and Ebook format, Hard-cover (Table Cloth) and Paperback (Mass Market).
If you like this book, you will also fall in love with the other books written by Ann Rule.
