What did I just buy?
Pros:
MG42, sound effects
Cons:
game play stinks, not exciting at all.
The Bottom Line:
If anything, buy it used, play it then return is for Frontline (if you don't have it).

Author's Review
I am a big fan of WW2 FPS and war games in general. My favorite is Sniper Elite, followed by Medal of Honor Frontline. I enjoyed Medal of Honor European Assault, so I thought Vanguard would be equally as exciting. I was wrong...
The much hyped release from EA deserves the reviews the video game circuit has given it, and now I am going to say pretty much the same. It's not worth it.
I do not know what the designers were thinking as the game is boring, poorly made and lacks any theme besides run and shoot.
The game puts you in the shoes of an 82nd Airborne paratrooper fighting in the European theater of Sicily, Normandy and Holland. While the novelty of jumping out of a plane is nice, that's about it. No matter where you land, you're in the same linear playing field. You play with a squad of other paratroopers running, ducking and shooting German troops.
Hit detection is aweful. As noted in other reviews, you can be standing in front of an enemy shooting him and it can take 3 shots to register a hit.
The levels have decent graphics, audio is great, but each board is VERY short, narrow and environmental damage is minimal.
Weapons and sound effects are the best aspect of the game. Getting on a German MG42 is a much better experience then the previous game. The gun spits out ammo more authentically, but it not as accurate (nor is ANY weapon).
Another big change is there are NO health recharge or healing packs throughout the levels. It seems the designers went back to the MOL Frontline way of doing. This method makes the game MUCH more challenging, and at times frustrating.
Controls are identical to MOL European Assault, so if you played that game, there is little or no time needed to get acclimated.
