EcoQuest doing America proud!
Date of Review: Feb 19, 2009
The Bottom Line: EcoQuest should be proud to say that they are an American company!
Finding a suitable gift for people is often difficult... especially for great-great grandmother; who is now pushing 102 years old.
Many years ago I heard great things about ozone killing smells and saw the effects of the EcoQuest units in demonstrations. It seemed that helping keep the air in the house a little cleaner would not be a bad thing. A little research showed that there was a risk of excessive exposure to ozone, but at low levels should not be a hazard, the rumors of EMI causing problems are unsubstantiate and otherwise the units seemed benign.
After some thought it seemed reasonable to get one for gram. The unit was set to work in her room. The dust always dancing in the sunlight quickly faded away and the faint scent of ozone was apparent close to the unit; but not more than a few feet way (there is a saying, "the poison is in the dose", which seems to apply here).
The unit functioned for many years with no noticeable effects. It signaled a need for cleaning once in a while, but otherwise was no problem. One day the unit failed (high voltage electronics) and the "geriatric" scent was immediately obvious.
The folks at EcoQuest offered to replace the unit for free or upgrade to the newer technology (with a new warranty) for a fraction of the replacement cost. We went for the upgrade, which was shipped immediately (the old unit returned in trade). The new unit cleared the air and has provided many more years of reliable service.
Cleaning dust particles from the air is easy to see in the marketing demos and has made a difference for us (yes the dust does collect and needs to be conventionally cleaned, but from surfaces and not the air). The odor mitigation is a real effect and benefit. The concerns about exposure to ozone or EMI do not seem to have impacted gram after nearly a decade of constant exposure.
That EcoQuest has made an effort to provide a quality product that they fully support and at a reasonable price for value is most commendable. Would that all American companies would do as well, we might live in a different world.
