Author's Review
I have played this game a few times and although many people would frown and say it's 'just another C&C clone' and that it is obviously no good, I wonder how many have actually sat down and got to grips with it.
It is set in the war-torn future, where Eurasia and the Americas are vying for world domniation, as the destruction of much of the planet has left very few resources and both sides struggle to control them. Sounds familiar? It should be, because that is the premise of most futuristing RTS (real time strategy) games. But does this count against it? Not at all. It's a classic premise and makes for a great game.
One of the best things about this game is the sheer variety of troops. A key feature is also that, unlike most RTS games, both sides have VASTLY different troop types.
For example, Eurasia uses tanks as it's vehicle of choice. They get bigger throughout the game, and as a result slowwer, but the advantage is they are extremely heavily armed and armoured. Eurasia also uses Lasers and Nuclear weapons, being poorer than the Americas.
But interestingly, the Americas have ditched slow tanks in favour of two-legged walkers, or all kinds. There are small, fast runners armed with simply a small rocket launcher or a machine gun. Then there are huge plodders armed with napalm grenades and long distance rockets. The two different approaches of the two sides make the game far more entertaining. The Americas, being richer, use Plasma technology instead of Nuclear.
There are many nice features in the game, such as Eurasias development of Ion technology, which allows enemy robotsto be frozen and then restored on the side of Eurasia, and technology that allows you to cloak your troops, making them invisible.
The graphics are more than okay, they are very good. Evey detail is taken account of. Granted, by today's standards they aren't amazing, what with the rapid rate of development in software and so on. But they are above average, I believe.
The missions are usually 'build a base and destroy all enemies in the area' or something along those lines. But there are others too, such as escorting vehicles and mining gold. You certainly won't be bored, although I found some of the later missions extremely difficult.
All in all, this game is worth getting if you're a fan of the genre.
