Braun Silk-epil SoftPerfection 3170 Epilator

I need to start by saying the title given by Epinions is slightly off. If you follow any of epinions links to the product it leads you correctly to this title in various stores like Amazon and Target. None of them offer the bag shown in the picture. I'm sure it is just an old picture coming up perhaps.

The Braun Silk-epil SoftPerfection 3170 Epilator is a surprisingly great product! I say surprisingly because I, myself, was surprised that I was brave enough to try it.

General information on epilation:

Silk-epil is designed to remove hair on the legs, but it can also be used on other sensitive areas like the forearms, the under-arm or the bikini line.

All methods of hair removal at the root can lead to ingrown hair and irritation, discomfort and reddening of the skin, depending on the skin and hair type.

Braun Silk-epil SoftPerfection 3170 Epilator has been designed to make the removal of unwanted hair as efficient, gentle and easy as possible. Its epilation system removes hair at the root, leaving your skin smooth for weeks. With the "SoftLift" tips and the unique arrangement of tweezers it provides an extra close epilation for perfectly smooth skin, allowing the removal of hairs as short as 0.5 mm as well as flat lying hairs. As the hair that re-grows is fine and soft, there will be no more stubble.

The epilation head comes with two different attachments:

My Personal Experience

My personal experience with the Braun Silk-epil SoftPerfection 3170 Epilator has been positive. As I wrote earlier, I was very scared to try the product. But as aging hormones are flying (I'm only 39, yikes!) I have been getting a lot of coarse black hairs on my chin & neck. By a lot, I mean just that. If I tweezed it would take me over 2 hours to get them all. Waxing is almost impossible because you have to wax in the direction of hair growth. My hair growth was facing every direction possible. Using Nair (even made for the face) would burn to no end then I would be sore, very very red & puffy for days.

So I got brave & purchased the Braun Silk-epil SoftPerfection 3170 Epilator at a local Harmon store for $43.00. I got home, read the very clear directions & turned the unit on.

Oh my! The noise level of the motor was almost enough to make it put it back in the box unused. How was I going to attempt to put the crazy contraption on my face?!

I closed my eyes and barely touched it to my chin. I jumped out of fear but was surprised to have just found a quick pulling sensation. I got braver and kept it to my skin. Every now & then it did pinch, especially over the curves of the bones. After a few minutes I was using this like a pro.

Does it get every hair? No. I had to use it back & forth in various directions & there were still a few hairs left untouched.

I stopped using it after about 5 minutes for fear of my skin getting red & inflamed. It never did. It was numb actually, from the vibrating rollers. My skin was never inflamed or even sensitive after using the Braun Silk-epil SoftPerfection 3170 Epilator.

It has been about a week now and I have only a small amount of re-growth so far which is coming in softer as the product advertises.

I highly recommend this product even for a first time user as myself.
