Good idea but not worth the expense

I recieved this printer as a gift along with my Kodak CX7310 digital camera. If I had made the purchase myself or realized the expense of printing with this printer before tossing the box I would have returned it.

Kodak had a pretty good idea when they designed this printer dock for their line of easyshare digital cameras.
It provides near lab quality prints in about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes per print.
The printer technology is similar to the printers used in the Kodak Picture Maker you see in many retail stores but on a much smaller scale.
As far as the other benefits of this printer dock is the fact that it includes a rechargeable battery pack that can be used in your Kodak Easyshare camera and provides a dock on which to recharge the cameras batteries and facilitates transferring images from camera to PC. This printer dock also makes it convenient to print off a few pictures for relatives or visitors to have without having to make a trip to the store.
On the downside this printer dock is very expensive to operate compared to printing at a local photo store. To purchase a package of 40 photo sheets and the printer ribbon which typically lasts for about 40 prints will set you back about $25 which figures out to about 63 cents a print when you can take it to a photo store and get prints for less than half that.
Although the thermal printing method will provide quality prints, the image will start to degrade in 5-10 years depending on storage conditions, whereas the chemically processed pictures you can get at many photo stores with newer equipment will not begin to degrade for at least 20-30 years.
