Yes, it's another person in love with the DYSON DC-07

My old Eureka vacuum cleaner finally bit the dust (pun intended), so we were on the market for a new vacuum. I've been reading about how good the Dyson vacuum cleaners are, here at Epinions, so we decided to give them a look. It didn't take long at all to decide on one. We were even fortunate enough to get one on sale - it cost $350, but we feel that it will really last and is a good quality machine. The Eureka, by contrast, was only six years old and had been in for repair three times. (If you think about what the old Eureka cost $179 plus 3 repairs at $35 each time, the costs are not all that different.)

DIFFERENT DESIGN:
This Dyson DC-07 doesn't lose suction because it is built with "cyclones", which are part of the Dyson technology. The cyclones use centrifugal force within to filter dust from the airflow. With a bag, you will lose suction as the dust is sucked into the vacuum bag even after just a small amount of dust goes in; this is because the dust quickly clogs and restricts airflow. Because the Dyson DC-07 is designed differently keeping air flow and dust apart, this will never happen.

DURABILITY:
Being made of what they call "liquid steel" the Dyson vacuum cleaners are made of the same material used to make crash helmets, which is a polycarbonate material. The color of our new Dyson DC-07 is a lovely shade of purple. :))

DOG HAIR, ETC:
I like the easily removable "quick draw" hose which stretches out to 17 feet. This is what I use to clean our stairway. The first time I used it, I could not believe how powerful it was. I had to get control of it because the hose was so powerful in its suction. I was also amazed at how much lint and dog hair it sucked up. That was one of the main reasons I decided on this DYSON DC-07 -- our pug, even with her short fur, shreds more hair than I ever thought possible, but our new Dyson picks up all of her dog hair with the greatest of ease. Cleaning in the stair corners and edges, where dust and more dog hair collect, was also simple with another of the small attachments. I also used the mini turbo tool to clean the dust on the back and arms of the couch. The handle of the vacuum cleaner is easily detachable for this purpose.

POWERFUL MOTOR:
The weight of the entire machine is not overly heavy, and when you are pushing it around, it is less than four pounds. When I carry it upstairs, it is somewhat heavy, but not unmanageable by any means. I either ask my son to help me, or I just rest on the landing. It is also very simple to maneuver around furniture. One thing that I have to be careful of though, is that I have several throw rugs around the house. With the throw rugs that are of a heavier weight, there is no problem at all, but the lighter ones do tend to get sucked up into the powerful engine of the Dyson, so I remove those before vacuuming. It's also a wise idea to remove any smaller items you may have on the floor which could get sucked up into the powerful Dyson motor.


I CLEANED EVERYTHING:
We're having some family come to stay with us next weekend, so I decided to do a little extra cleaning to get ready. I have a little valance curtain in the kitchen that was pretty dusty looking. I used the brush attachment to clean it off. It came out beautifully and saved me a lot of time from having to take it down, wash it and hang it back up. (I'll do that next time.) I also noticed that our window fans looked pretty disgusting. (Makes me wonder about what we're breathing.) We took them apart and again, using the brush attachment, were able to clean out almost all of the dust in between the fan's filters, in no time at all. I also set the Dyson DC-07 to clean the bare floor, which is done by the flip of a switch. Long bristle brushes sweep up dirt on this setting, so floors are not scratched.


THE AMAZING DIRT CANISTER:
With the clear canister, you can actually see the dirt as it whirls around inside after being sucked up into the machine. It is truly amazing. It is also very easy, hygienic and quick to empty -- I love this feature because all you do is pull the trigger and the entire clear container unsnaps away from the vacuum cleaner body and you simply empty the contents into any plastic trash bag when you're ready (approved lifetime HEPA filtration for those with allergies). There are no vacuum cleaner bags to buy! The first time we used this vacuum cleaner on our living room area, the canister collected so much dirt and dog hair, it looked like I hadn't vacuumed in years! The canister was so full, it was both embarrassing and amazing at the same time! (Made me wonder what that old Eureka had been doing all that time.) In subsequent times, we are still getting up quite a bit of dog hair and dust, but not as much as the first time, thank goodness.

The directions tell you to make sure you wash the durable lifetime filters not less often than every six months to ensure that your Dyson DC-07 keeps suctioning the way it should.

BACKGROUND:
Also included is a booklet about James Dyson and how he started to make vacuum cleaners and other products over the years (since 1970). It describes how he was vacuuming his own home one day in the many years ago and realized his vacuum cleaner was not suctioning as it should. James went to work with his research team after thousands of prototypes and five years, he finally invented the world's first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner. Ironically, Richard Dyson's new technology was turned down by several major manufacturers, including Hoover. It wasn't until 1993 that James Dyson was able to open a factory in England near his home, to begin making his own vacuum cleaner. And, of course, the rest is history.

I am ridiculously happy with our new Dyson DC-07 and am recommending it to family and friends. Vacuuming our home may still be a chore, but it has become a chore where you can actually see the results of your efforts.
