Small Canister Vacuum Makes For Easy Maneuvering
Date of Review: Oct 8, 2008
The Bottom Line: Works great and gets under furniture easily and does not hurt my back to use.
I go through vacuums like most people go through a pair of jeans. I am a vacuum fiend and go over my floors every other day due to having two dogs that shed. I have another Dyson, but wanted one that could do steps and could get under furniture easily. I had been looking around and got a chance to try out the DC21 at a local Sears. I was sold after using it on carpeting and hard wood both.
The Dyson DC21 is not the lightest weight Dyson on the market at twenty two pounds. However the pluses out weight the negatives when it comes to this vacuum.
- What I Like -
The vacuum is easy to operate. There are only three buttons total to remember. There are two on the canister itself. One is for the on/off and the other button is for the retracting of the cord. The third button is on the power brush itself to turn it off and on for if you are doing carpeting or tile/hard wood floors.
The vacuum is easy to maneuver and gets under furniture and under the bed easily which my other Dyson only gets part way under my furniture and bed. Another thing I absolutely love is that this gets into tight corners which my other dyson can not do as easily. The hard brushes get down deep into the carpet to pull out dirt and dog hair. This works great on hard floors as well as carpets.
- What I Dislike -
The collapsible wand can not be detached from the hose which is a pain. The canister does not have hinged lid to dispense the dirt like my other Dyson . You have to turn it over and shake it out which is messy. I either do it outside or put down paper around the garbage can to catch whatever does not go into the garbage can. The cord is shorter than on my other Dyson so I have to reposition it through out the room to get the rooms done.
- How Well It Works -
I have to say there are definite things I love about this vacuum. It has a lot of suction and not only made my high traffic areas look new again it refreshed my carpet as well. I use this vacuum upstairs since the DC21 is easier to get up and down the stairs unlike my Dyson ball that is wider and bulkier.
Even though I use this numerous times a week it never ceases to amaze me how much dog hair this pulls up out of my carpet. I cleaned my carpet recently after vacuuming with the DC21 and the water was not nearly as dirty as I am used to and there were no hair balls left behind for me to come back and vacuum up after the floor dried.
I have been very happy with how well this has cleaned my carpets. It is not to big or bulky and can be put up into a small closet with ease. I would have to say my only real big complaint is that the canister is so messy to clean out and I need to do it outside if I do not want a big mess left behind.
